I see that plod has asked for another 300k for the mcCann hunt

13 years have passed without one credible clue.

Surely it is time for them to crowd fund it?

Or as mentioned in a paper, losing a cushy job until retirement?

Depends if the money's used to hunt for the girl or if they're using it to investigate the McCann's. I'd be all for the latter, the former's a lost cause by now surely. It's always been an odd 'case' in my book.

Whilst it's extremely sad for any parent to lose their child i'm genuinely curious why this particular case has merited so much investigation?

I assume there have been other UK people who have gone missing over the last 13 years, either at home or abroad. Do they all get the same level of investigating? If not, why not?

One wonders how much negative attention, for arguments sake, two unemployed parents left their (drugged?) child in an insecure room whilst they drank with friends on holiday would have received? This was a shocking dreadful mistake to have made, and whilst I do not doubt the pain, and guilt, the McCann family must feel, I wonder why more was never made of this?

This has all the makings of a good one, somehow I can’t see any replies being very informative.

I think it's quite obvious - doubt it can be stated on a public forum though.

Investigate them in relation to what, precisely?

When I was in college I used to work in a popular outdoor store.

A woman walked in and started browsing. A particularly chipper young store assistant bounded across to her with a broad smile and said "Are you looking for anything in particular today ma'am"

She burst into tears and fled the store.

Queue the manager kindly explaining to everyone that the mcanns lived locally :haha:

There's no doubt that they are guilty. The $64000 question is 'What of?'

At this stage it's just the police annual holiday fund.

It's not as if they're actually going to solve it, are they?

It’s really dragging on too long now.

Sadly, people disappear everyday and they don’t get this level of resource.

Something fishy about the whole thing.

The parents have to take responsibility for this one but are happy to blame everyone else and expect the public purse to keep coughing up.

Time to stop.

If only we knew what the police know but has not revealed. Then we would understand better why the police continues to seek funding for this case when other cases are simply put aside until new evidence is forthcoming.

As far as I recall the police in Portugal have shelved the case but will reopen it if the family and or friends head over there to help which they have refused to do.

The UK police seem to be working under some undisclosed restrictions as a senior successful investigator has publicly stated he was warned off taking the Operation Grange job by his superiors as he wouldn’t be allowed to investigate what/ who was required.
So the UK police just seem to be going through the motions and investigating random useless tipoffs.

Last year a world renowned DNA expert said that the technology has moved on now and he would be able to identify which member of the family the DNA identified by the dogs belonged to. His technique has been proven effective and been used in cases in the US.
He offered his services to operation grange even for free, numerous times and I can’t remember if they have just continually ignored him or if they eventually told him to go away.

So no I’m not happy to keep funding a sham investigation

Ben Needham to name but one (albeit more than 13 years ago).

Do you truly think they would have been treated the same if they were some chavs from a council estate?

Well they probably wouldn’t have met the pope.

Be nice if Pistonheads could kindly re-open the thread from 6-7 years ago, that'd be sensible

A lot of good discussion involving the PJ files,

The fact that the apartment wasn't broken into.
Deleted call log entries
'They've taken her'
Twins not waking up
The 'timeline' being all pre-prepped - twice(!)
The mysterious car journey into Spain
The dogs indicating

But, PH saw fit wholly unnecessarily, to stop the thread (my opinion).

I'm sure Rover could happily comment more
That's your view. The publishers - the ones who'd bear all the legal costs if a libel action were to be commenced - clearly take a different view.

Pistonheads is meant to be a commercial operation that is all about cars (with a few other bits on the side) ...... would you risk your business so some people you've never met hypothesise about an unsolved missing person/murder case? No rational person would.
