Not much coverage about this, but it looks like RIshibaby is about to announce that relief on red diesel is to go, saving the treasury £2.4bn per year.

Now the timing of this seems a little cruel seeing as farmers are taking such a beating with the weather at the moment.

It's a good move and will solve the problem of people wrongly using red diesel overnight.

This, loss of entrepreneur relief, IR35, no cut to corp tax and raising the point at which you can take private pension. Basically a tax raising budget on Busienss, who will medium term pass it on to customers end of the day goverment has to raise more cash for its spending on Buses, HS2, NHS etc. One way or another its all to be paid for to keep voters happy.

If true; a Disaster for farmers if so, along with upcoming reductions to subsidy payments at the same time.

Construction will suddenly become a lot more expensive.

Yes also construction, hope this is just not true.

Too big a move right now, this budget is surely being watered down with the corona virus woes...

The details of the subsidies will be key. I'm not convinced the picture postcard version of a "farmer" will be that impacted....

Pretty much spot on. And the more mobile businesses will simply move abroad.

Loss of red diesel relief will be a HUGE blow for farmers, many of whom use vast amounts of diesel.

used frying oil is free, which renders the status of red somewhat irrelevant.

Yep it will also cause a spike in rural crime ...
Mind they don't have rebated fuel in NZ where agriculture is a big part of the economy , diesel isn't taxed as much but you
have to pay a milage fee for using it in road vehicles,
Perhaps they are thinking about replacing fuel duty with road pricing which also makes sense for electric vehicles !!

Anything at all that see's a drop in the use of Diseasel will be welcomed by many, some people care more about
the only pair of lungs they will ever have than the economy.

I remember the police cracking down on people using cooking oil.

Outside of London or the hallowed pages of PH where everyone not only buys all their new cars cash, has retired by 40 and has a <cringe> V8 toy for the weekend </cringe> I really don't think people care that much at all. They look at what is economical, and farmers and industry want what can tow and work.

As an aside I'd love to see the fuel expenses for a petrol engined tractor ploughing a field yikes

DVSA checkpoints are on roads, not in fields, so the combine harvesters, tractors, diggers etc that live on the farm are not within the scope of the discussion.

We are going to start selling 100bhp fart powered, I mean methane tractors this year.

We can also run some products on biofuel, but storing it and it's general stability is a nightmare.

Interesting as long as you register.

Just checked, I’m not losing my marbles I definitely remembers police acting in it.

Police impound cars run on cooking oil

Police in west Wales have taken action against five drivers in one day for using vehicles run on cooking oil as part of a clampdown on the illegal practice.
The motorists were stopped under new legislation which makes it an offence to use the oil as an alternative fuel without paying a fuel tax levy.
