What will everyone be getting hysterical about as soon as the vaccine is rolled out?

"Dr Broderick, who's originally from Fife, says that if all goes well, they could move to 'phase 2 testing' involving thousands of people by the end of the year."

That's not "nearly ready to go" in my book.

It's impressively quick to get it to the testing stage. I believe there will be a number of variants of the vaccine being tested.

By the end of the year?

But we're still only at the start of the year!

Impressive how quick they acted if I'm being serious.

There are a number of places that are looking to start trials in April, one in London is hoping to perform a challenge trial rather than simple dose escalation. Even if the results are out of this world incredible we wont be seeing anything ready for widespread use before this time next year (and even that would be a record for the industry).

New medicines need trials and a length of time to see any adverse effects.
We've seen a number of times what happens when certain side effects do occur, there is outrage and there are compensation claims galore.

I am wondering more how much profit the pharmaceutical companies are going to want to attain when they release their prices on 'successful completion' of the trials?

How is this any different to the doom mongering OP despises? Just another side of the coin.

Think of it as a vaccine, for doom monger virus.

20000 die of flu every year. And you are upset by a rude comment? Maybe some perspective is needed.
We weren't even discussing flu and you talk about perspective rolleyes

Fake news.

Even if the vaccine is ready for human testing next month it will be months before it's approved. Following that many months until production for mass consumption.

How many infected and dead by then?

The claim that "Corona Virus vaccine nearly ready to go" is patently untrue, and isn't supported by the story you've linked to.

Either you are genuinely unable to comprehend that, or you're just being an arse for your own amusement.

Unimpressive, either way.

The director of CIDRAP Michael Osterholm recently said he could make a vaccine ready overnight but it could potentially be years of testing before it could be released.

quite right, that’s the fly in the ointment. Regulation. The fact that the Chinese had the Genome of the virus nailed inside a fortnight, is of little use, because of the red tape involved in getting the vaccine ready and out. But it’s nice to see there is one ready for trials so quickly. If this proves to be a seasonal bug, it will be ready for general use by the time it comes around again.

Great news, the animal testing phase has been fast tracked through, and they’re already testing on Humans thumbup. Hopefully the “fast track research” will include legislation to get it ready and out into the population a bit sooner than would also be expected.
