Coronavirus - what good can come out of it?
Discussion
Our daily lives seem to have changed massively in the last 6 weeks and the media across the globe are covering the huge negatives and potential risk to life from this scary situation that we are in.
But this got me thinking - are there short/medium/long term benefits that we can can see or hope will come out of it that will make the future better?
I’m thinking a better healthcare system adequately supported.
Better ways of working.
Taking more time for the family and ensuring it is quality time.
Potentially a cleaner environment if it is proven that poor air quality is a key influencer of how badly people are affected.
Certainly an improvement in workers rights where sickness is paid by the companies- especially as IR35 has taken away the ability of a lot of people to save but hasn’t provided stability.
On the immediate benefits I have to say my sex life has gone up massively - me and the Mrs can’t keep our hands off each other. I wonder if this is because we have more time or if it’s a primitive subconscious thing built into our DNA to ensure survival of our species/family line?
What good do you hope will come out of this current situation?

The chances are most of these things you say will not happen and more than likely the opposite. We are going to be skint there is not going to be any improvements in workers rights anytime soon. And good look finding more money for the NHS after all this is over. The only good to come out of this is a better understanding of what happens in a pandemic. At the moment we only have plans based on theory.
Next time (and there will be a next time) we will understand better how to deal with it.
Regardless of the any benefits, the damage to the economy is going is going to be huge.

I would like to see a less global reliance on China. But I can’t see this happening due to the fact most countries have outlawed slavery so it’s just nice and convenient to outsource the trade to China.
I would like to see every country try and manufacture their important supplies themselves, such as medical equipment, medicines. Etc. Although I don’t have the foggiest idea even if we did that it would protect us in the future, we would have to get the raw ingredients from somewhere I suppose. This would also have to be state ran due to the fact no business can compete with China / India on manufacturing.
Better planning in emergencies country wide. Such as declaring a state of emergency which would limit things like panic buying etc. This would make people ensure that they always try and keep a few weeks food ready just in case.
A return to people getting a bit more responsibilities for their own lives, use your garden for some veg and stuff. It’s not hard and will help everyone if the shtf.

Not coming on PH to another corona thread would be a start.
As sad as it is, this will bring natural selection to alot of people due to them not being able to cope.
Im on the list with only age on my side as ive had a bout of Pneumonia a few years ago, im not worried as such..... MRS400 is panicking thou.
But its time for us as a country to really start thinking about what we need to make in this country rather than relying on others and being left int he s
