Easily done. Happened to me back in the day and I am far from a novice trailer user.
Finished a race at Snetterton in the Sprite Midget Challenge, good result podium finish, normal parc ferme faffing about, presentation etc, jumped into car drove round into paddock and drove car straight onto trailer. Rest of team all happy and excited with good result, lots of chat, load tow car with gear, anxious to get going 3 hour drive back to Brum. (No A14 dual carriagway in those days).
You can guess the rest!
We got as far as the roundabout just outside Thetford and something didn’t feel right, I looked in the mirror to see the race car slide gently forwards on the trailer until it hit the winch, at which point it rolled gently backwards again. I shat myself and braked which caused another collision between race car and winch. Managed to stop without loosing it altogether. Felt a right dildo as we strapped it down at the side of the busy A11. I was gutted as it put a massive dent in the front panel and a bit in the bonnet. I never put a mark on it in the actual race which was quite unusual in those days.
Lesson learnt and never forgotten.

That looks like a BMW CSL and a car in that exact colour scheme was on my twitter Instagram of someone I follow the other day and I can’t remember who.
That was my first thought but it is not a great picture.I was marshalling at a meeting at Brands one time in the nineties when we got a call just before lunch to stay on post as a competitor that had missed practice was going to do his three mandatory laps in order to take part in the afternoon's race.
When he came out the track commentator revealed that early in the morning the guy had positioned his tow car and trailer outside his house, popped indoors for something or other, and when he came out set off for the circuit, completely forgetting he had not hitched the two together. He got all the way to Brands before he realised his race car and trailer was still on the drive.
Needless to say the poor bloke got an enthusiastic welcome from marshals and spectators all around the circuit as he did his laps
