Will they turn it off once it's all over? Why do I doubt it?

Does turning 'location' off stop it or are they using mast locations?

Quite. I expect there will be various intrusive measures left on the books after this, as there were after the war. Never let a good crisis go to waste, eh?

Once this is enacted, as usual the PTB will get to liking the taste of it.
Why then would they rescind it afterwards?

South Korea who have got the best grip on CV (IMHO) legislated a few years ago to cover this sort of thing. This in the light of SARS/MERS.
IIRC it allows, in very specific circumstances only and only selected groups, access to and exchange such data.
They have made a call that privacy is less important in epidemic times than saving lives.

It is best practice to quickly trace potential contacts and areas of infection. Now down to 10minutes!
Location data is made available on a smartphone app. to the general public.
I don't know how anonymised the data is.

I've put links on the science thread to some more stuff on this. Some information from a chap living there.

I don't think anyone likes it.

But I wonder what trade off people would accept if technology can help to ensure people who disobey the laws/rules face appropriate sanctions whilst those that don't might find life gets back to somewhat normal sooner?

Not that I'm paranoid but haven't used mine since the quarantine began.

Just had a feeling they would track location.

And just why does that worry you, personally, so much?

and South Korea will probably have only a fraction of the economic damage we will from this. Choices and trade offs.

I saw a piece of how quickly South Korea dealt with it through data.

Frankly if we are all tracked anyway, if legislation like this means we don't have to go through another situation like this then I'm all for it.

If you want to be tracked then go for it. Some of us want to mind our own business without being snooped upon.
