Coronavirus petitions
Discussion
As well as a record breaking number of threads, the virus has surely given rise to a record number of petitions. I'd say probably a dozen times more than Brexit even.
Dozens solely dedicated to lockdowns, most recently on building sites

But now having the power to enforce them is the subject of its own petition.

This is after we had to petition for pubs to close so they could be eligible for mythical insurance cover

Then of course further to the implementation of mortgage holidays (I can't find a petition for that) you had half a dozen demanding rent holidays because homeowners most of who'm aren't landlords are getting a break.

Then the biggie is the government provision for 80% of your wages which naturally led the self employed to demand a handout, but of course that's still not going to cover everyone or give you close enough to your ordinary takehome which led those left behind to start the own petitions.

Personally I am still fuming that I did my GSCEs 20 years ago and wasn't able to skip them due to COVID-19, but an even bigger hardship is that Eton were accepting children of key workers for free. Why wasn't I given that education?
Of course people are facing all sorts of hardship and I have sympathy but it's absolutely bonkers that what would ordinary be a technicality or exemption or condition of your contract that has left you out of pocket has now been your human right to claim recompense for. I was left out of work by the 2008 crash. How many petitions were there then?
I could also be out of work this time but luckily I am able to work safely from home in the meantime. If I am subsequently made redundant would I then be able to claim the 20% back I've actually had to do 100% of the work for during my notice period rather than being furloughed on 80%?

So women have been at home with new born babies for the entirety of lockdown and want 3 months longer with the baby before they have to return to work. What next, 3 months extra free childcare for those who returned from maternity but had to spend it at home with the baby on lockdown instead?

There is literally no inconvenience people have not started a petition for, and I'm not even going to claim the 6 quid or whatever it is tax break on using my utilities while working from home
