So whilst walking back from my 20 min queue for eggs I was reflecting on the new world around us and the Qs above.

From a perspective point of view I live in London, make a decent enough living (but out of work at the moment) and consider myself center left (a socialist capitalist if there is such a thing).

For me, at the moment least, people seem just that little friendlier / kinder, the air is noticeably cleaner and I am trying to get fitter (rather than being in the pub). I am also finding out my wife can’t seem to walk for more than ten minutes without tripping on something....the world of Uber living that once was.

I am personally very supportive of the furlough / other support measures (don’t help me though) and will happily pay an extra “middle class” tax to help pay that country debt down in the future. Having said that, any scammers should have the book thrown at them.

As a car nut I also hope that perhaps some of the more unobtainable vehicles come into my range (but accept every winner has a loser).

Thoughts welcome.......

PS If a thread does develop on this subject please can the tone be kept objective / positive.

I'm hoping that having invested time, resources and money into enabling more staff to work from home, it would be great if those who are able continued working from home. It would reduce rush hour traffic and save those people money

yes Reduction in travel, especially commuting, will hopefully be a long-lasting effect. Possibly long-distance business travel for physical meetings too.

Hopefully we'll see a longish term uptick in spending on the NHS, too. Perhaps the current difficulties will make people realise that the fact we have about the lowest per-capita spending on health in the developed world isn't a very good thing.

If many of us can stop travelling to the office every day we can cut half the sodding buses and let Londoners breathe.

Hopefully learning that having excess capacity to deal with the unforeseen is efficient rather than inefficient.

Certainly, check their records on the funding of the NHS in the last 10 years, including applauding when the nurses were refused a pay rise

I wonder what the work from homers will feel about it in a few weeks. There's obvious advantages but there was some speculation that being cooped up all day and not meeting and being around other people wasn't ideal.

Being a sparky it doesn't affect me directly but if it takes a few cars off the road..

The old world that we were used to is gone and isn't coming back. No one's going to be interested in cars apart from cheap runabouts, forget premium makes, no one will want them at any price. Trying to keep food on the table is going to be the main objective and that goes for everybody without exception, there will no longer be well paid 'sturdy' jobs as some here think they have.
The new way of living is quickly approaching..

Realisation the NHS needs co funding like other states to keep up .Tax payers £ is not sufficient.
Excluding exempt groups ...[ insert your £ ] to visit a GP , out patient appt , minor procedure , major procedure , drugs , day stay , impatient / night .

Insure yourself.
Boss,s Co incentive in the package .
PAYG
Debentures on your house / assets .

Accountability will improve as well as outcomes .......as now joe public will be suddenly interested where there dosh and how there dosh / contribution is spent .
No more inept middle top heavy managers squandering public funds starving the front line clinical staff .
So yup pay the nurses et al more = a bigger contribution, smaller amount / pcm for your car .

= car s this forum ......less £ in the pockets to fritter on PCP ,d white Audi’s , cabriolets and R Rovers .
Unless you are healthy and maintain good health .
So low BMI = better higher specced car ownership.

Hopefully the penny will drop that many people traveling unnecessarily to/from work, or for work, isn't necessary, leading to...
- less road congestion.
- less air pollution.
- less overcrowding on public transport.
- more rest/leisure/family time for people.
- more spare cash through not having to commute, improving people's financial health and stimulating the economy.
- better mental health for introverts like me who find overly social work environments a torment.

Really what a load of rubbish . Not everyone lives pay cheque to pay cheque . For us few who save an work hard this is a golden opportunity to invest an make money , with what hard earned money you have available . It’s about time people living beyond there means are caught up with in my opinion.

Agree, also more cash from not having to buy so many clothes for work.

I also prefer working alone in peace and quiet, don't feel anywhere near as tired now as I used to when heading into the office. Not having to listen about Love Island or whatever mindless cr4p some like talking about is also a relief.

When people who are earning 80% of their wage up to £30k, their employers realise that a 4 day week could work. For every month for a single employee that is 1 new job.

Quality of life and work life balance is my greatest hope alongside people caring more about each other. Reset, regroup and reshape. Things will never be the same again. Gaia is at work.

would be nice in the future if folk could stay away from others a bit better when they have a cold or bug , instead of spreading around the whole work place

There are going to be winners and losers here. Mostly the poor are going to be the losers. As ever.
