With all the problems being caused by irresponsible people ignoring the now clear guidelines, it's hard to understand how someone in this position can carry on with any credibility.

There can be legitimate reasons for using or travelling to a 2nd home but on the face of it, she looks like she's scored an own goal hear. Not sure how she can recover from it.

Even the likes of David & Victoria Beckham are doing the same. It seems one rule for one, another for the others.

Hopefully she will be sacked, what sort of message is she giving out.

There's been a lot of discussion here as to why Sir Hugh Pennington was not given the job of CMA after putting his hat in the ring, despite being far better qualified for the job than Catherine Calderwood. Nothing at all do with the fact that he was born in England and is not a supporter of Scottish independence?!

As Nicola Sturgeon once said - independence transcends everything. Even public safety it appears.

I'm generally not one for demanding exemplary personal conduct from leaders, and everyone screws up from time to time, but how can you stand on a plinth and insist that something is vital for everyone if everyone knows you're not doing it yourself.

I'm sure she can still do great work for the public, but not in her current role.

She has to go.

She’s basically the Scottish face of the message to stay at home ... and she goes and does this.

WTAF was she thinking?

As does the government that doubled down and released a statement supporting her. Calderwood should have been sacked as soon as they became aware of the news. It is a delicate situation, and in being seen to excuse her behaviour they have undermined public confidence in them and their message.

The same as what the entitled Nationalist Government of Scotland has been thinking for a while now - that it can do what it pleases and to heck with public opinion because they have enough core support for their one cause that those voters will overlook every other one of their failings and continue to back them at the ballot box.

See Scottish Referendum / Independence thread for details!

Seriously? You’re bringing the SNP and Scottish independence I think this matter?!

I give up.

The CMO’s actions were utterly outrageous.

Yep, they're lucky to have struck a chord with enough Scots of limited intellect that they hang on and on despite blundering from disaster to disaster. We laugh about the phrase 'turkeys voting for Christmas', I'm sure turkeys probably talk about Scots voting for independence when being scornful.

She has also admitted doing the exact same thing the previous weekend

She was there last weekend and this weekend!

She’s on Scottish TV every ad break telling us to stay home.

It’s sheer arrogance on her part that she thinks she’s above the “herd”. Sending out a message that it’s them and us. How she’s still in her role as CMO is beyond me. furious

I've voted SNP for past 20 years, Nicola Sturgeon should have sacked her today, massive judgment of error in my opinion, can't vote for them again after this.

Erm... The points he is raising are "Why did the most qualified person not get offered the job?"
Point 1 - "He was not a Sweaty"
Point 2 - "He was a Unionist"

Now - you can debate his points - as they do seem to have some merit....
Or flounce.

Sturgeon doubling down on supporting Calderwood- will not end well for her.

She must have taken leave of her senses. You would have thought at least once on the hour-plus drive to Fife (not once but twice) that what she was doing was out with what she has been advising. Going to check on a property if there was maybe some suggestion there was a problem, is a million miles away from a cheeky night away with hubby as last weekend, or a family trip with the kids as was yesterday.

She apparently won’t be the poster girl for restrictions any more, but hard to see how she can stay in her role at all.

Sturgeon was doing her best to defend her from questioning through the press conference but she must know the CMO is far too damaged to save now.

So it’s ok to drive 30 minutes to a supermarket and back again, but not to drive 30 minutes to a supermarket and then 30 minutes onwards to another house? Not sure who she’s putting at risk to be honest.

Calderwood is not Scottish.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, this is the advert for Scotland-

She’s all over Scottish TV telling us to stay at home! That we must not visit friends or family. That we must not go to a second/holiday home.

She has totally contradicted what she’s been urging Scotland to do!
