French police turn back private jet of holidaymakers from UK

Seven men and three women arrived on the chartered aircraft to Marseille-Provence airport, where helicopters were waiting to fly them on to Cannes, where they had rented a luxury villa.

The men, aged 40-50, and women, aged 23-25, were refused permission to enter France and ordered by police to fly back to the UK.

I wondered what furloughed people on six figure salaries might get up to during lockdown?

Furloughing off to the SoF with a few 'fair maids' didn't make my top ten!

Nice to think some of it might have been funded by the taxpayers.

It gives a new meaning to the expression "Business Relief Scheme".

Ridiculously heavy-handed policing. These nice men taking their nieces for a weekend of jigsaw puzzles, board games and karaoke and this is the thanks they get from the authorities.

What do you mean suspicious? Nothing looks odd about this at all.

I bet there was a bit of "furloughing" going on there, eh? Know what I mean? Say no more!

I assume a flight plan was logged or are the regulations not being enforced at the moment?

If so, I imagine some questions will be asked when (if?) they return to Britain given the 'stay at home' message from HMG.

'Explaining to their wives' with be the least of their concerns!

If the trip had gone ahead, I imagine the young ladies would have taken a furloughed.

Think you may have confused furloughing with ploughing

How did they manage to fly out of the country? I’d have thought anyone jumping into their helicopter or private plane (jet or otherwise) would be subjected to the same policing as those kids playing in their front garden in Yorkshire.

Ahh, but that would mean consistency across the country.

Biz jets are still arriving and departing at Farnborough - although the frequency is much reduced. The UK has not closed its airspace.
