It won't be satisfied with that climax. It usually does better than that.

Strictly speaking, that's not Krakatoa. Krakatoa itself blew itself to pieces in 1883. The island that replaced it is called Anak Krakatoa (Daughter of Krakatoa). It actually blows and pops quite regularly -

See also... https://inews.co.uk/news/environment/awakening-vol...

I also recall when Eyjafjallajökull went up in 2010, all the experts were saying this was always the precursor for a much bigger eruption from a neighbouring volcano... still waiting for that to happen?

It was a bit of a damp squib. In short, the yanks had a pop at Iran, the Iranians lobbed some missiles at American bases in Iraq and for an encore shot down a plane that had just taken off from Iran.

This was at 11pm last night surprisingly little mention of this on the news. Great clip with the lightening and lava bursts.

When the original Krakatoa blew in the 1880’s it caused a reduction in temperature across the globe.

Today’s equivalent would be if Yellowstone caldera / supervolcano went off big style. There was a 5.2 earthquake today in California which is not that strong (no damage) but is one of the larger seen in the US for a while.

I wonder what causes the lightning-type effects?
