Should we have locked U.K. borders, with quarantine only en
Discussion
The economic cost of where we are now is incalculable. In early February should we have shut the doors to all human immigration unless a three week self funded isolation was undertaken. Could we legally have done this? We still had Chinese students and citizens returning from their new year celebrations and entering UK. unchecked. I am unaware of any quarantine rules being applied even now. We imported this virus via its human carriers and it seems we are still allowing its import. It just seems crazy.

It's interesting with the current calm weather and a perfect time (and tide) to 'sail' across the English Channel, that we haven't heard of any illegal immigrants arriving on the beaches.
Have they all arrived safely, or are there still drownings whilst attempting the crossing?
Maybe the camps in France (etc) have been dispersed or the 'gentlemen of the press' have more pressing topics?
Curious?

We import an awful lot of food.
Do we let the truck drivers in?
After all of this is over - the electorate will expect things to be different next time around ( and odds are it will just be within 5-10 years )
Food can be loaded on trailers and trailers loaded on ferries. .Neither thebdriver or his tractor unit need to come with the goods. Do we let the truck drivers in?

I wonder if this has a role to play going forward. We've had a lock down, so with track and trace and closing borders I wonder if it could feasibly get on top of it at least for 6-12 months and try to keep it out. Obviously hard to snuff it out in a population of 60 million, but easier than in a world of billions.

I think it shows that we have no instant pandemic plan for such matters- our testing was never at airports, even when we were trying to track it.
As soon as it became pandemic, it's a different game IMO. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea did a great job of halting the epidemic, but now they're beseiged on all sides by it, regardless of their good work.
I think in future we'll be much more proactive in applying quarantines and flight cancellations from novel illnesses.

Now - yes - rubber gloves etc.
But if they touch their face..
And then when food is on the supermarket shelves - the number of people that pick something up - and put it back...
Or hand over cash
Or use chip and pin
Or use touch screen
Or handle trolleys
Or paperwork
etc etc
Heck - bacteria wiped out the Martian invaders not that long ago.

Surely everyone that goes shopping is locking their food away for several days if possible or washing cartons and packets
