Melb/Australia - four police killed in roadside traffic stop
Discussion
This happened a couple of days ago and all sorts of details are now appearing in the media. The story is, a Porsche 911 was caught speeding along the Eastern Freeway in Melbourne. Two police officers tested the driver for drugs (methamphetamine) and got a positive result. Another pair of police turned up to assist and while they were going about their business a semi (artic in UK) crashed into the lot of them at a substantial speed.
The four police officers died at the scene. The driver of the Porsche received no injuries. This is where is goes from bad to worse. The Porsche driver got his iPhone out of the car and started filming the scene and taking pictures. As he was filming, one of the officers - who was pinned between two of the cars - pleaded for help whereupon the driver replied “Amazing. Absolutely amazing. All I wanted to do was go home and eat my sushi and now you have f
ked my f
king car” . This was captured on the police officers body camera. He legged it and phoned a mate to come pick him up and drive him home. He handed himself in to police the next morning.
The police searched the truck drivers house that evening and took away evidence. Now it turns out that the truck driver had methamphetamine, pipe and cannabis in the cabin. He's in hospital under armed guard - he had some sort of "medical episode" at the scene.

The bloke seemed like a total bellend. And I wish him nothing but bad things for mouthing off whilst people were injured and dying.
But it was the lorry driver that killed people. Not the porshe driver.
And I'm not sure how I feel about offences of not offering assistance etc. For all we know he might have had zero skills or training, and as he was off his face on drugs was he in any fit state to help? If he wasn't capable of driving his car would he be capable of doing first aid? My partners best friend is an A&E doctor - and he told me straight that if he has drunk too much to drive he won't jump in if someone is injured to try and help. His logic was that he'd have to justify any mistakes he made. Which made sense to me.

When people are that badly injured? But it was the lorry driver that killed people. Not the porshe driver.

Surely "helping" could be as simple as phoning for help? Or even just staying with someone until hep gets there.
Incapable of using his phone? No he wasn't. He's simply a t
t and deserves everything thrown his way. As would anyone else doing that.Tony Starks said:
^^ He ran off after filming them dying and posting it on social media. As you say, he could have comforted someone at the least.
Absolute level 10, weapons grade
(but I believe it's already been mentioned that he's a mortgage broker). However if he had of just stayed there or did the correct thing of dialling 000 (Australia's 999) he probably would have walked away scott free, he'll probably be charged now with leaving the scene in addition to the motoring offenses which is a far more serious charge and no juddge is going to be kind to him.

I'd rather go to court for doing something than go to court for not doing something! But it was the lorry driver that killed people. Not the porshe driver.

If the Porsche driver hadn’t been off his head and speeding, non of this would have happened. But it was the lorry driver that killed people. Not the porshe driver.

A great pity it wasn’t he who died instead.
I spent a wonderful year traveling Oz and me and my ex girlfriend did the proper bit in the middle too.
Long story short, every Australian told us the not worry about the snakes or spiders so much, just look out for the road trains as every driver of them is jacked on stuff to stay awake and alert...
It was also true at the time that these road trains with like 3-4 trailers take a mile to stop?
Sounds silly now..better go check that ..

Meth pipe found in drivers cab... Long story short, every Australian told us the not worry about the snakes or spiders so much, just look out for the road trains as every driver of them is jacked on stuff to stay awake and alert...

Nothing like 3-4 miles to stop. Modern trailers all have relatively decent ABS and braking systems. Assuming driver slams on hard from full tilt you'd be looking at around 100m ish.
I am hopeful this is simply a "drug head" out of his mind rather than a look at the current view of the police in some countries. I know a few Aussies have been pretty miffed. And the other day I saw (not sure if true) but a police officer's house was surrounded by people after he arrested someone.

Anyone mentioned yet the video of him saying to a tradesman's wife that he wished the cancer killed her, all because he had a habit of getting tradies to do work and then not paying due to bulls
t reasons and was called out on it?
Quality human being, hopefully the goal population will do its thing.
