‘Manspreading has crossed over to the realm of running, and it’s not OK’
Jesus wept, are people actually getting paid to write this s
te?

Is there a newspaper today that really does give a balanced view on serious issues, one that wouldn't dream of publishing s
te like this?

Now, the lady who wrote this piece....to me she doesn't look like a runner...her facebook profile has hundreds of pictures on it, not a single one of her doing anything which looks even vaguely like running...although there is one of her friend "working out" I think

You seem a bit odd for going to her Facebook...

Don't judge me on that alone. I do much odder stuff than that. I'm not on Twitter or Instagram, and every runner I know has pictures of them running on their facebook. She doesn't......
I was in the cafe of my local gym, enjoying a coffee and doing some work on my laptop.
There were few seats and I moved my table so that I would not take up 4 spaces. A couple saw what I was doing, came over and helped, then sat down. They said thank-you. The guy said, in a loud whisper, obviously intended to be overheard, 'It's a shame not everyone is so thoughtful,' and nodded behind me. I turned to see three tables pushed together - they were normally in pairs - and a woman sitting in one seat, with various bits of clothing and bags, placed on four of the other seats. He used the term womanspreading.
I then noticed a number of others were looking at her and talking about her, including a couple of staff. If it had been a bloke, he'd have been spoken with.
It was just like buses, trains, tables in reference libraries and, of course, cafes. Uncouth behaviour.
In my day womanspreading had an entirely different meaning, and not necessarily with negative connotations.

I didn't look at her picture, but she lives in zone 1 and holds her breath every time she passes someone while running. It did strike me that either her other hobby is free diving or she's not running that hard.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
