Nor seen a thread on this, im guessing sales of the ring doorbell will be on the rise.

Will still be a piss poor sentence no doubt.

What’s the odds on the “businessman” father being a “rum un” ?

Let’s face it, even today, gunmen don’t rock up on random doorsteps and start shooting

From the local rag, Josh knows doesnt he... i guess we ll never know why, hope the kid is ok though.

The woman, who gave her name as Sharon and was speaking while walking her dogs on Saturday morning, said: “It’s not the sort of area that this goes on. This is a really, really quiet, lovely area. I know all my neighbours up and down on this road.”

She said she knew the boy’s family only “to say hello to”.

Commenting on the incident, she added: “It doesn’t happen in this road. This is a leafy suburb. People walk their dogs, people come here for a quiet life.”

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Josh Collins said his family knew the adult victim, describing him as “a nice geezer” and “just your average bloke”.

I’ve seen several reports, including this one, which refer to the shooting having taken place in “East London”. What’s that all about? Upminster is in Essex, alongside the M25, it’s nothing to do with East London. Does using that as a location somehow dramatise things, playing on the 1960s gangster theme or something?

Quirks of London postal codes, the same way that Sewardstone (near Chingford) is in Essex, yet has a London postcode, or Barking or Ilford is called east London, though uses the county name for postal areas. Ilford is under London phone code of 020, served by the Met Police and London Ambulance, so is technically London.

Upminster may have 01708 phone numbers, but is in London Borough of Havering, so still London. Just about. Further out like Ockenden or Thurrock is the real start of Essex, or further up the A127 you will pass the "Welcome to Essex" sign along the dual carriageway wink

They entered with a knife with firearms found in the address.

So possibly a firearms licence holder/they were looking for the firearms or there is more to this than meets the BBC's slapdash reporting talents.

It's possible that there were firearms at the address but I'd say it's highly unlikely that criminals went there looking for them. Criminals very rarely do that these days for many reasons.

The report mentions that a 26 year old had been arrested and that two of ages 16 and 18 were initially arrested. Sounds not unlike a robbing trip, to be honest.

Regardless of everything else (slapdash reporting/purpose of attack, etc), I just feel awful for the 11-year-old - just tragic

The incident actually took place in Cranham, a suburb of Upminster and where I grew up and my Mum still lives (just around the corner to this incident). My Mum gets a vote in the London Mayoral Elections so is certainly in London. She still uses 'Essex' on her address but then many people use Middlesex who live in Harrow - or elsewhere nearby - which is as relevant as someone in Andover adding 'Wessex' to their address.

Cheers for the clarifications - just seemed odd to me give the physical location of Upminster and the CM postcode!
