GMP Tasering in a petrol station.
Discussion
Just following a GMP (greater Manchester police) faceache post about them 'tasting'
a man in the local area following video emerging on social media.
(They've edited the post now)
That aside I wouldn't have thought using a Taser on a petrol station forecourt seems the brightest of moves ? Or am I wrong as usual?
The guy involved was a big lad, like the one recently shot by an ex copper in Georgia America

That taser seemed to be crackling on a few occasions, not as a matter of self defence but to force compliance- this when the guy in question is probably going to have great difficulty complying.
I wonder how much of a threat the guy would be with his little kid in attendance.
Based on an 8 second snapshot we’ll never know I wonder how much of a threat the guy would be with his little kid in attendance.
The taser records it’s use ( which must be proportionate )
The officer’s BWV will give a much clearer idea of what happened as will many other things
Based on that clip you cannot judge

Need to know the back story before it looks fine to me.
This all over, supposedly arrested and charged with a number of offences. Just wondered about use of taser on forecourts, lots 'could' go wrong? Obviously not.
I was surprised to see a car jumpstarted right by a petrol pump before, I would have thought pushing it away a bit may have been more sensible.
And there's Sainsbury's nonattended fuel forecourts worrying about using your mobile phone to scan for nectar points

Big? He's notably smaller than the police officer on the right.https://youtu.be/WJiJkivQllw
The taser is not supposed to be the first resort. Unarmed man, against two police officers getting tasered is a complete stitch up. Crap policing.

It may be he has demonstrated serious violence towards the police on previous occasions, he may have previously used weapons plus loads of other variables.
Taser also wasn't the first resort.

ho is he? What is he being arrested for?

So police often walk up to people with a known history of violence and weapons without first drawing their tasers? Rubbish. It may be he has demonstrated serious violence towards the police on previous occasions, he may have previously used weapons plus loads of other variables.

Police officer escalated this situation by using a potentially lethal device.

Burnham is wrong, the guy has been charged with drink driving and other offences such as speeding and no insurance. Shame he didn’t think of his child while doing all that. Deserved to be tasered just for that let alone refusing to comply with officers.
Hope he gets a big sentence for drink driving, endangering his child and resisting arrest.Still didn't deserve to be tasered.

Was a PNC check done just before the filming started, for example?
The police often find out about a person's risk after they've started to talk to them etc.
The police often approach people with previous known violence without PPE drawn. It depends on the circumstances.

Any force has a probability of lethality. A taser has a very low probability. I'd suggest resolved rather than escalated.

Still didn't deserve to be tasered.
None of us know if he deserved it or not. Our personal views may differ but ultimately the seconds of footage available do not show the whole picture and don’t show what he was saying which can go on to show he may or may not have deserved it. Still didn't deserve to be tasered.
