So (unfortunately) living in Scotland I'm now very much unclear on the situation.

Boris says I can go to a park to sunbathe.

Sturgeon says I can't.

If Police Scotland come along to move me on, where is their powers coming from?

I understood UK parliament imposed the lockdown legislation and only they can change it? Or Does Sturgeon have say over what the Police up here enforce.

All hypothetical you realise as it was snowing today!

They both made it perfectly clear that residents in Scotland should follow Sturgeon’s advice and Johnson’s statement applied specifically to England.

Meanwhile in Wales the Wisdom of the Welsh which was, announced on Friday differs from the UK Government but apparently, according to the local Welsh news, Boris is being divisive by giving different rules to abide by.

Shouldn't you have waited to hear the UK Government advice first rather then expect them to follow your rules Mr Welsh First Minister?

Knobs, absolute knobs! banghead

I don't like the word "advice" - where does the legeslative power that the police enforce lie? I understood this was an act of UK parliament?

Er, you live in Scotland and don't realise that Policing is a devolved power (along with transport, health, education, our own legal system and much else).

Sturgeon is First Minister of Scotland, she's the one whose advise is relevant.

On the topic though, I'm no SNP fan but all credit to Sturgeon, she has so far avoided taking any party political position on this or making petty point scoring comments of the Westminster v Holyrood type. If only she / the SNP chose to govern the country in that way, stop banging on about independence and just worked within the considerable powers that are already devolved, I might actually vote for them based on the performance of the last two months. I've no doubt it won't last though and we'll soon be back to westminster bashing and evil torys in every breath before long.

However the lockdown powers were granted by Westminster were they not? Not a devolved action?

I live in Wales, the Welsh government is an irrelevance to me.

I'll listen to the guidance from Public Health England, as my company have done from day 1 as Wales can never get it's act together. To be honest, the announcements have little impact to me personally, but I am frustrated that a single voice and plan isn't being enacted.

Well, policing in Wales is a question for Westminster, so those weasels in Cardiff Bay can get stuffed.

If anything it simply makes them seem more impotent.

Whatever the final decision, the four of them should be consulting and then promulgating (heh, I never thought I'd be using that word today when I go up this morning!) the same message across the UK. It's utterly ridiculous that they've all got their own view, plan and agenda. So if I live in Northumberland, I can extend my time out of the home but I cannot cross the border?

That aside, petulant demand for indyref2 incoming in 3....2....1....

So I wonder what the Welsh, Scottish and NI government will do following Boris's announcement? Seems like their jumping the gun has backfired. If they backtrack they will look weak. If they stick to their guns then they'll look out of touch and rightly get slated.

Place your bets.

Health is devolved, so one assumes so is responsibility for testing for COVID-19.

Population of 5.454 million in Scotland and we are lucky if we can test more than 2000 people a day.

Quite why Sturgeon is getting away with this is beyond me.

I think your numbers exclude tests in hospitals? 9th May:

2437 + 1355 = 3792 tests

How will they look out of touch when England are the outlier? Not to mention they are basing their decisions on the fact that each country has different rates of infection...

Numbers are from the headline daily announcements. They do make reference to further tests in the details, but they hardly change the metrics by much.

She's had the devolved powers to follow other nations with a far more expansive testing regime, but hasn't.
