So Meltdown Matt wants international travel off the agenda for summer holidays.

Should I book my UK holiday cottage stay and enjoy our beautiful island now before the rush... or take a punt and shell out on a resort somewhere tropical?

What's a 'lavish' trip? Can I make do with a 3 star hotel in Florence?

Really hoping there are some possibilities. Driving into Europe through France due to the lack of quarantine sounds the best option right now.

Has anyone seen any indications what the borders in Europe will look like in the summer?

Lots of talk about opening on July 1st.

Only if you’re not planning anything too lavish obviously.

We are thinking of an unlavish road trip over to France, particularly of quarantine rules are relaxed between both countries.

Tempted to get the ferry booked but equally there’s no rush!

Planning an un-lavish cross channel sailing trip about 2021/2 but there is a very slim chance to visit Fowey and points west in August/Sept!

I feel sad for those who will be queuing for the ferry, 2m apart, towing their caravan that have a more restrictive venue and welcome by the the locals. Take all supplies, would be my suggestion, as you will be as welcome as a leper, at the local markets unless you speak the patois!

Supposed to be heading to Romania on the bike at the end of July as a group of ten.
I appear to be the only one in the group doubting we'll be allowed.
I doubt we'd get a warm welcome anywhere along the way.

Even if we can go I doubt I'll go.

I read something about travellers arriving to the UK by sea* don't need to self-quarantine. Anyone know what the situation is on the road borders from France or Switzerland to Italy? Got a place there rotting and while wild horse wouldn't get me into an Orange plane I could ride or drive.

European borders are closed, until May 15th from memory when they will no doubt review.

Fortunately I speak the lingo, but yeah take your point, could be an interesting ‘welcome’ we receive.

I was planning quite a 'lavish trip' to the UK later this summer but these idiots pissed on that with their utterly cretinous quarantine. It's like they're trying to cause as much economic damage as possible for the least amount of medical benefit possible.

I'm due to get married in August and be in California on Highway 1 in September.

I'm not sure either will be happening this year.

Mrs Eyersey and I were hoping to have a few days away somewhere later in the year as our unlavish trip to Dover that we would have been on this week hasn't happened.

Entente Cordiale, an' all that jazz!

Interesting that visitors from France have been included with Eire, not requiring quarantine? A political move if I ever saw one but maybe this will be the way forward? Neighbouring countries opening borders to a few, but don't take the mickey driving from N Germany to S France and similar instructions (unwritten?) for us. Visit Normandy/Brittany this Summer but 'use common sense'!

A lot to commend it, don't you think?

Dover eh? Sounds a bit lavish to me, what with that posh castle and immigration centre.

Even if we were/are able to fly abroad in the summer (Tenerife for me end of August), would we need to be quarantined on our return to Blighty?

I’d actually prefer a holiday in the UK this year...

Pretty dumb use of language imo, no wonder some people find the messages ambiguous. He says no big lavish trips abroad, but what he's actually managed to say by default is that small modest trips abroad are OK, which is not the case, the guidelines/regulations make no distinction with regard to opulence/thrift in that regard. tt.
