Liberal Democrats Election inquisition
Discussion
Couldn't find a LibDem thread so thought I would put this here. What with everyone being bored at home what could be more interesting than 61 pages of the LibDems explaining why they bombed at the last election...

The first page sort of sums it up...

. To say that the outcome of the general election on 11 December 2019 was a bitter disappointment for the Liberal Democrats is a big understatement

Do they have enough supporters to start one?
But thanks for reminding me about Swinson. Most amusing.

Nobody could ever have seen that coming adopt a stronger Remain position it fragmented...

The document could simply say.
For years we have been campaigning to get a real referendum on Europe.
The Govt finally agreed to have one, and Parliament voted by a large majority to hold one.
We lost.
We behaved in the most undemocratic way possible.
The public listened to what we had to say - and didn't like it one bit.

They based their campaign around their leader, the "Jo Swinson's Liberal Democrats" bus comes to mind. However, she was about as much use as a chocolate teapot when on camera and she has all the gravitas of a digestive biscuit.
The FPTP electoral system is particularly cruel to a party with their reasonable, but thinly spread support, too. Compare their results with the SNP who have a concentrated voter base to rely on:
SNP: 1.2 million votes, 48 seats
Jo Swinson's Liberal Democrats: Just shy of 3.7 million votes, 11 seats
Hey ho

Which is partly why the Lib Dems, for as long as I can remember, have campaigned for the removal of FPTP and to bring in PR instead- it being a more representative form of democracy. The FPTP electoral system is particularly cruel to a party with their reasonable, but thinly spread support, too. So of course it makes perfect sense to run on a campaign for your Lib Dem sympathisers based entirely around overturning a democratically legitimate referendum by using the powers granted you by the same faulty FPTP you've been railing against since forever.
Honestly, I think it would be easier to list the things they got right.

Here's the next leader Layla, next to someone who has 'chucked' it in, thankfully.
Strange reflection behind him on the wall!

. Happy memories... glazbagun said:

The possibility of keeping the Liberals permanently out of power was the reason I voted against PR when we were given the chance. So of course it makes perfect sense to run on a campaign for your Lib Dem sympathisers based entirely around overturning a democratically legitimate referendum by using the powers granted you by the same faulty FPTP you've been railing against since forever.
