After 13 years, a new person of interest

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52914016

“A 43-year-old German prisoner who travelled around Portugal in a camper van is now the focus of Scotland Yard's investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

.. [he] frequented the Algarve between 1995 and 2007, staying for "days upon end" in his camper van and living a "transient lifestyle".
He was in the Praia de Luz area where the McCann family was staying when she disappeared and received a phone call at 7.32pm, which ended at 8.02pm.”

Article omits what he’s been convicted of, which is presumably relevant

I really hope this leads to a prosecution and that the parents finally get some closure.

Well if there was ever to be a year for this mystery to be solved it would have to be 2020

It does seem quite suspect. But surely they can only get the truth from him? Its been 13yrs and zero evidence has surfaced and put anyone at the scene. I'm not a criminal but surely you could just say "Nah it weren't me" and that's that?

My thoughts too. Unless remains are found with DNA evidence then I don't see how he can be prosecuted without some sort of confession which I very much doubt will be forthcoming.

My spidey senses tell me that this has been on the shelf until the weather has improved and lockdown ended so that the Met can have another free jolly. "Don't forget to bring a pack of cards just in case it rains" biggrin

He must have been looked at in some detail originally, they seem to have photos of his vehicles and phone records from the time of the offence

People like that always lie through their teeth so unless they have new evidence it’ll go nowhere I imagine.

Also, what page will this thread make it to before it gets nuked?

Which offence was that?

There is no evidence that the child was abducted as claimed by the parents.

I never said there was, but children rarely disappear off the face of the earth without someone committing an offence of some kind
