Not sure why.

She was an important and influential entertainer - not a politician or soldier.

Because of her efforts to try and boost the moral of soldiers about to die for their country?

It would be somewhat unprecedented to say the least.

There has only been one state funeral for a non-royal since 1935.

That of Churchill.

How did she boost morals?

so she sang songs to the blokes who were prepared to give up their lives- and she's the one deserves the state funeral?

I don't think many dispute her importance or the memory of her contribution to the war effort, but if Churchill is the bar for who deserves a state funeral there are going to be very few who meet it.

Exactly, and so it should remain. As soon as you start lowering the bar it would devalue it.

There are plenty of other ways to pay a fitting tribute to people who were popular and fondly remembered, but didn't change the world.

Lovely woman who inspired hope in thousands, if not millions and was very much the voice of an era.

However, she should absolutely not have a state funeral. If she did, who would be next? Paul McCartney?

Additionally; I obviously didn't know her but from interviews, etc I would guess that she wouldn't even want one.

I think a memorial concert featuring her songs and other wartime music would be far more appropriate - possibly in an outdoor setting with a few warbird flypasts.

That would be much more fitting.

I've nothing against the lady at all but having a state funeral is a ridiculous idea.

Whatever, we must not erect a statue to her.

Easy there folks - we want to avoid the BLMuppets finding out Churchill had a state funeral or they'll poo themselves in righteous indignation.

I'm a big fan but let's not allow the current hysteria infection to reach this too.

A state funeral is not appropriate.

Exactly, honour her memory with a WW2 themed concert, a few programs looking back on her role and achievements and maybe a Spit or Hurricane flying over but a state funeral for what is essentially an entertainer? No chance.

Would you want one for Cliff Richard or Elton John as well? That’s where it would lead to.
