Don't you think there's a possibility he was erm... joking? I agree with him, people in power should not be rolling over to anti-police and anti-capitalist groups. Not supporting BLM doesn't make you a racist, even though many people seem to think it does.
...you really think a senior MP would make such a crass statement in these times as a joke? Even that possibility marks him as an embarrassment. I'm not commenting on supporting BLM or the like I'm talking about the cultural isolation of a senior member of Parliament. Drezza said:

....how out of touch with society is he? Heard his comments on taking a knee, and he thought it came from Game of Thrones and signified subjugation. Wow. The whole Colin Kapaernick situation passed him by I guess? What an embarrassing statement.
what exactly is the origin?eldar said:

what exactly is the origin?Worth reading the comment from Ben Zimmer too.
Protest against the US state symbolised by their national anthem. Started out as him just refusing to stand, but seems some forces vets suggested this was disrespectful to those who fought and died for the country so why not take a knee instead (as they did to honour people). Seems like a sensible and impactful way to protest to me - if only BLM had done this the other week, socially distanced and everything. Things would be very different today.
Raab has a bit of a habit of making himself look a plum. I hope it's just accidental rather than outright stupidity (everyone is allowed the odd gaff). But he does look set to be one of those that is released into a nice cushy job (ambassador to the EU maybe
) in due course whilst being the fall guy for something.Unknown_User said:

I don't think he was out of touch at all...He just said what the vast majority of people think.
You think taking a knee originated from Game of Thrones too?
