In view of the current WOKE movement isn’t it time that the open funeral pyre issue was re- ignited
(excuse the pun). Respecting others traditions, religions and sensibilities is of course the central plank, therefore the question arises, will the U.K. permit or rule out open pyres.
Personally I cannot envisage just how permission may be gained given the U.K. environmental issues. What say you?

We had a incident here in Battersea a few years ago whereby some French nutters tried to burn their au pair’s body on the bbq. Apparently the smell wasn’t very nice at all for the neighbours.

So would probably be a no from me.

Dont even need to burn them - just do the Indian sky burial technique and leave them for the *vultures.

'*though in the UK, we might have to replace these with badgers.

I have Scandinavian heritage, I quite fancy a Hollywood style Viking funeral, although living in Huddersfield, I will have to make do with floating down the narrow canal.

The dream is floating out to sea on a Viking long boat with all your worldly possessions whilst friends and family shoot flaming arrows at the boat. As the boat drifts over the horizon with the flames rivalling the sunset there is a great feast where your lifetime acheivments are celebrated in songs and poems and much ale and food is consumed...

The reality would be a kiddies inflatable boat in the middle of a municiple duck pond snagged on an abandoned Tesco trolly as your mates flick lighted swan vesta matches at you whilst swigging from half priced bottles of Corona lager that the local corner shop was selling cheap as their sell by date was rapidly approaching.

After the third or fourth match fails to ignite they all decide it's a bit boring and fk off down the local working mans club for some cheap fizzy lager and a packet of pork scratchings.

You could go down the Calder although you would end up floating through Dewsbury.

Some interesting and amusing replies hehe it I am really looking forward to those members of the WOKE movement to chime in. This really is an emotive issue that should suit and argue their stance on such matters, it is the essence of everything they stand for. Or have I got it wrong perhaps?

I would like to be placed into a wooden boat and pushed out onto Lullingstone Castle lake and then have the boat and pyre ignited by flaming arrows and then my family and friends feast and drink and dance late into the night.

I am of Viking ancestry and for some reason my cultural traditions are not respected so the chances of the above being allowed are fairly slim.

Yeah but floating through Dewsbury on fire with Le Zeppelin playing the immigrant song.

We had many during the foot and mouth crisis, the stench on a summer's day as the smoke drifted back down of an evening was horrendous.

Used to send our Labrador potty as well.

I have done Hindu, Sikh, and most other types of burials/cremations. Which group did you have in mind who might want a funeral pyre.

I don’t think this thread is going to workout how you wanted (which is a bit weird anyway).

Hindu, as you mention. This is the group which comes to my mind, however any group or individual
who may wish for such a ceremony. The fact is of course that the U.K. tells us that such a ceremony is illegal for all groups and individuals.
Incidentally it was me that introduced woodland burials to England back in 1997/8. Such burials
before this choice consisted of a almost Victorian approach saturated with daft rules and regulations appertaining to coffins and Memorials.

I doubt that it would bother me at the time.

I’m using the ‘Social injustice’ section of the brand. That is funeral pyres are outlawed in the U.K. owing to environmental issues and social issues, and this affects the Hindu and other practices. For me it’s a perfect example of how politics and Religeon can cause problems. The woke crowd are primed for this I would have thought?

Time Lords?

When was the last funeral pyre in the UK? Has to have been a few hundred years?
