Annoys me that this is what a lot of people think of when you tell them you like cars.

Just gives the whole community a bad name.

The guy is a special tyoe of bellend. thinks the police pick on him but constantly does stupid things like this. Should lose his licence for the things he has video'd himself doing.

If only there was a law against this sort of thing.

The police would then not appear to be so pathetically inept.

Oh!

Edit: (24 July) for balance. Police maintain "enquiries are ongoing." See Cossy400's post of 24 July for details.

Yeah I'll give you that one Eric... hehe

As someone said, this gives car enthusiasts as a whole a bad name.

Police have made no arrests but described the scenes as 'quite frankly unacceptable', while insisting they had no prior knowledge of the event.
So actually a complete contradiction. They did nothing so accepted the situation.
And presumably unless they have prior knowledge of a crime they will not do anything.

I just had that come up on my phone while sunning myself in the garden and having a break.

Only comments I have are:
1. Why do people have to apologise or ask for forgiveness for posting up a Wail link on here? rolleyes
Have some f courage, just post it up!
You'll get ridiculed anyway on here, regardless.
Take Eric's first comment! biggrin

2. When I first looked I have to confess I thought it was a motorway pilgrimage of Christians
(the size of that cross dangling on the chest of the one with the pale blue i-phone)
all heading for an obesity club get-together.

I'm from Denton, but not currently living there. Somebody posted my MP's response in one of the local Facebook groups. I'm no fan of Gobste Gwynne, but this is pretty good:

Andrew Gwynne MP said:
DENTON CAR MEET - My email to Ian Hopkins (the Chief Constable for Greater Manchester), Andy Burnham (Mayor and Police & Crime Commissioner) and Bev Hughes (Deputy Mayor for Police):
Dear Ian

There was chaos in my constituency yesterday when a huge car meet caused massive disruption in Denton.

The event, which had been advertised on social media, drew hundreds of people and vehicles to JDK Autoworx on the Windmill Lane business park causing gridlock in the town and led to the closure of the M60 anticlockwise at junction 24.

There were instances of dangerous driving, people ‘rioting’ and significant noise disruption and I have a number of urgent questions that I and my constituents need answers to.

The rally started in Telford and given that the route and address of the meet were advertised I want to know urgently why police intelligence didn’t pick this event up?

I understand that you have a unit looking into illegal events such as this and I want to what the police knew about this and when?

There have also been posts since bragging about the event and the disruption caused and I've attached some screenshots illustrating this.

I want to know why the convoy from Telford wasn’t stopped before it got to Denton?

The crowds were gathering in very close proximity and people had travelled together in vehicles. I want to know how many fixed penalty notices for no social distancing were issued and how many arrests were made, and if the answer to that is none, I want to know why not?

Does JDK Autoworx have any track and trace information for the hundreds of people from all over the UK who attended?

Were any vehicles confiscated and if not, why not?

Please can you confirm what action is being taken against JDK Autoworx? They promoted this event and I want to know if they will be prosecuted.

I am deeply unhappy about what happened and the local community think that the police actually aided and abetted this event by allowing it to go on until 10.30pm.

GMP must now be in line for the most inept police force in the country and the people of Denton would be better paying a precept to the Keystone Cops.

I have copied this email to Andy Burnham and Beverley Hughes for information.

Yours sincerely

You have to wonder why the police are treating this so differently to the last bunch who caused chaos on a motorway....

We look forward to charges being brought in the same way as those who caused criminal damage felling Colstones statue and chucking it in the river and ignore social distancing in Bristol Liverpool and of course the recent 300 strong Asian wedding in Blackburn lol.

As if.

Yes all very good but it wasnt organised by the autoworx people, it was suggested by one person, who was picking his car up from Telford and the dropping it off in Denton.

Hes since posted a video showing his disbelief that it was SO BIG.

The reason HE stopped on the motorway was because said car had started to over heat..... He didnt expect the convoy to stop too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRGH96xwOMk

The opening 10 secs on that video tells you all you need to know, and YUP the Civic wasnt insured apparantly so the guy that organised it "not intentionally" is paying for the Megane to be repaired out of his own pocket.
