I must admit I am at a loss to see quite what Jo Johnson has done in public life to earn the reward. Apart from a bit of family reconciliation between the brothers.

Quite possible to refuse a Peerage, should one have the decency to self reflect and conclude that it is not appropriate to accept it.

Jo Johnson in the HoL is OK with me. I’d rank him somewhere well into the top half if there was a league table of Peers

There are now 200 more peers than there are MPs. I'm sure many of the people appointed are worthy of their positions but it just seems a bit mad to have so many and the system really is no better than hereditary peerages. Surely they need to introduce some sort of democratic reforms?

I see Ruth Davidson has been appointed too despite having previously looked to get out of politics. Odd.
