Marks & Spencer Globe - Malvinas
Discussion
The globes lists the British territory as the 'Islas Malvinas' followed by 'Falkland Islands' in brackets and 'Puerto Argentino' rather than Stanley.

Storm in a teacup.... made in China or somewhere like that , nobody bothered checkin the map. Nothing malicious & the sort of oversight that can easily happen.
Agreed. It's a decorative globe, not a navigation aid so it would have just been bought, distributed and sold. I doubt anyone did any checks other then it looks like a globe and will sell.98elise said:

Do people get as annoyed by the french calling our channel by another name? after all we have fought far more wars and many more people have died fighting over parts of the channel that have ever died fighting for the Falklands.
or is it just because it is more recent?

How did London become "Londres" in French, or Osterreich become "Austria" in English etc etc? Its like someone told a Frenchman "our capital is L-O-N-D-O-N" and they went off and renamed it. Still, I suppose we got our own back by refusing to pronounce Paris as "Paree"...
(In response to the OP, I think it'll probably only outrage DM readers)
The issue highlighted by this thread is a totally different one to the scenarios you noted.(In response to the OP, I think it'll probably only outrage DM readers)

Does anyone really give a crap about what a bit of water is called? The EU could insist it is called 'The French Channel' from now on, and I simply wouldn't be able to muster any disgruntlement.

I agree that M&S did the right thing. We all know they only did it out of fears of bad publicity of course.M&S did the smart thing quick. Few grands worth of stock in the bin saves a massive headache.
But they don't really have a choice when faced by the spittle-flecked anger of the Daily Mail and its readers.

- company commissions product
- nobody thinks to check the product or doesn't check thoroughly
- company puts product on sale
- somebody points out it has a sensitive error on it
- company promptly withdraws product
