Anyone with more intelligence then me could shed some light on this?
Does this refer to men born before 1950?

Not sure whether or not this is a big story. As far as I can see from Google NI auto credits are paid in a range of circumstances. If you are unemployed for example. So millions of women would also have been paid credits.

Further googling revealed this story refers to one specific scheme in the 80s.

All to do with sex discrimination against men.
"But of one thing we can be certain. Whether or not they benefited from NI autocredits, all of those 4.6m men were victims of statutory sex discrimination. They lived at a time when women of their age had earlier state pension ages than they did. "

It makes it clearer and shows that the point of the scheme was to partially compensate men who were not permitted to retire at 60 like women. It was therefore a partial compensation for sex discrimination not sex discrimination itself.
Given that women, on average, live longer than men I think those who are still moaning about having to retire at the same age as men need to pack it in now. Few are impressed by spurious claims to victimhood.
