Bubonic Plaque is fairly common in parts of the third world and I think easily treat with antibiotics etc. There was a big outbreak in the 90s in India.

Interestingly an outbreak in SF in the 1900s resulted in the Chinese Exclusion Act effectively banning Chinese labourer migration.
