John Lennon’s killer denied parole again
Discussion
Mark Chapman was eligible for parole in 2000 but is still behind bars. It looks like he will never be released.
Of course I haven’t seen the reasons given for denying parole but the suspicion is that it is who he killed that means he will never be released (even if not the official reason).
I suspect had he killed a “nobody” he would have been let out years ago.
Somehow that doesn’t feel right even though I also feel anger at Chapman for what he did.

It reads like, variously over the years, the reasons given have been: he’s a danger to himself; or he’s a danger to others; or others are a danger to him.
I'd imagine it would be the last of your suggestions It's the USA, someone would probably seek him out and kill him, and then there would be a riot.must be some sort of record, 39 years for a single murder, I suspect it's cowardice by the parole
board more than any sound reason to refuse his release.
Like Myra Hindley, it would be brave minister who gave the OK for her release,
so unable to find a brave minister she remained incarcerated for 36 years
while being no danger to the public.

Or maybe they assessed him based on all the facts and decided on balance he's still a crackpot and likely to be a bother out in the open.board more than any sound reason to refuse his release.

Being harsher than Ghengis Khan I have zero sympathy for anyone who takes a life (self defence aside).
