There have been lots of crashes here at night. I think local kids get on the southern junction from Gloucester and race to the next junction for Gloucester. It has resulted in several fatalities.
In answer to your point re BBC night coverage a friend is/was a journalist who covered Nighttime internet updates for them but they made a lot of them redundant a couple of years back.
Even when he was there I used to think they were crap.

PH : the BBC is too huge and needs to be reduced to just a few TV and radio channels.

Also PH : the BBC should have an army of reporters to publish everything that ever happens in the UK.

If it’s not BAME, LBGT+, Brexit bed wetting or an unhealthy dose of covid hysteria then it won’t get a look in on BBC News.

Been like that for years.

How much do you think should be covered? M4 shut 15 to 14 yesterday, causing chaos everywhere, Malborough, Hungerford, Lamboune, as people tried alternative roads...

Not knowing the M5 is closed is going to ruin my day here in Yorkshire, I was going to go on a nice walk, but now my plans lie in tatters.

Why would a motorway closure for an accident make national news?

It’s on the local BBC twitter feed as traffic information but I don’t think Hew Edwards should be announcing it in a solemn voice.

Road accidents happen every day. They’d never have time to report anything else if they listed all the road closures due to accidents.

Thats for local news, not national.

Most people won't care if the M5 is shut.

Why would anyone go to BBC news to find out what the travel situation is?

I know some people want to blame the BBC for all the worlds ills, but I don't think this is one of them.

Surface has been damaged and must be replaced.
Will they be able to replace some of the rest at the same time wink

This. I don’t care as I’m not planning on going anywhere near the M5 today.

If I was, do you know why I’d do? Look on Google Maps / Waze / highways agency website and see if my route had any major obstructions.

I wouldn’t watch BBC breakfast in the hope that they’d heard of my epic voyage and we’re making sure I know I’ll be delayed .

I suspect that the report would have been national if it was over a holiday weekend or the first rush of school holidays. A random Sunday is September then not so much.

The news app doesn't seem to get updated on a Sunday unless there's a proper story breaking, sport excepted.

A few thousand people protested outside the BBC in Manchester a few weeks ago and that never made the news so it's no surprise.
