UK Media & DSMA Notices
Discussion
There have been some recent references in the press and TV regarding the UK media senior editors being served with DMSA notices with regards to the recent pandemic and our ongoing 'casedemic'.
Many are questioning why we are not getting the complete story or indeed the good and positive news regarding CV and why those pertinent questions are not being asked of ministers and authorities that the ordinary man in the street wants answers to.
Do you think this age old (~1912) tool of the state has been abused, an overreach not fit for purpose in the modern times and is it even right and proper to use this outside the sphere of military operations and intelligence?
Although it is declared as voluntary, we don't see many or any mainstream media deviation from the official Gov narrative.

Might surprise you to learn the the UK media isn't the only media in the world.
There are plenty of other respectable media sources in the world, almost all of which won't be following the UK Governments specific lines. Although of course, they may be following their own governments agendas.
If at point in reading that media you reach the conclusion that its a global conspiracy, you might want to seriously consider the insanity of the possibility that any organisation could be so well organised, so hidden, and so powerful as to control the world - or marvel at it and realise that you're not going to stop it, even if you tried.

For those that don't know, a DSMA (or D-Notice) means Defence and Security Media Advisory Notice. This is where the government issues a request to an editor not to publish something in the interests of national security. They're not legally enforceable and remain advisory. Most are adhered to though.
I certainly don't think they're outdated. What effect they have in today's world though is another matter.
I can understand why they're being used in the Covid context. The science behind viral infection is particularly complex. Research baselines will include worst-case scenarios which necessarily include the very worse symptoms and infection levels. Within the scientific community, this is normal and understood but outside, the facts would be exceptionally scary, potentially causing mass panic.
This is highly likely because on the whole, people don't read or absorb news - they just read the headlines.
Society doesn't need to know the detail - just what they need to do.
