Top of the list is McDonalds. I have never seen it so busy, drive through stacked with cars at usually quiet times. Is this pent-up demand from lockdown and people getting their fill on the chance there might be another? I’ve all but given up getting a quick drive-thru coffee when out and about for work.

I’ve been off work this week and noticed no matter where I go and at what time, it’s always busy still.

Starting to wonder if a lot more people are still furloughed than I thought!

I like to pick up a coffee from Mcdonalds drive through on way to wrk sometimes and don't find it busy, are you in a part of the country facing lockdown again?

I was at Leeds train station last Friday at around 7am, usually you can barely move for people pre covid in the station at that time but last Friday there were literally 7 people on the same platform as me, it was weirdly quiet.

McDonalds have adverts apologising for the time taken to serve customer, as they have reduced staff numbers in the kitchen. The ones I've seen are quiet inside, but big queues on the drive-thru.

I was in Leeds 3 weeks back and it was crazy how quiet town centre was. Even Weatherspoons at the station closed early!

It's so quiet that I've actually started driving straight through the middle of the city centre as a short route home, that would have been considered crazy back in January this year.

I have noticed a big pick up this week as it's clear students are coming back, Headingley which is the main student area is packed so I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is an outbreak there but more generally the suburbs of Leeds are fairly busy but everyone seems to have left the city centre who can.

Yet the morning and evening "rush hours" are still far quieter than pre-covid down here in the SW.

Same here in East Midlands. 30-35 mins commute rather than 50-60.

Any area of open space, country park, nice walks etc close to urban areas are absolutely heaving since lockdown. A combination of people having a new found enjoyment of the great outdoors when it was the only thing possible to during lockdown, and still being on furlough perhaps!

I'm in London and my commute by car to cover 8 miles was 75mins pre Covid. Best time was exactly 19mins carpark to carpark during Lockdown. Now it's busy on the roads but still only 40mins, sometimes 35mins.

That's 6.4 mph average.

That is a slow potter on a bike. You have to wonder what goes through people’s heads when they would rather sit in a car for an hour and a quarter than cycle for 45mins.

I drove from the M23 junction clockwise to the M40 at 'rush-hour' on Wednesday afternoon and barely slowed the whole way. Normally that would be stop-start from J9 to J16 with some long standing traffic periods. Busier than it was a couple of months ago, but still 'almost' a pleasure.

8 miles. I'd definately be cycling. Even on my st bike I'd be doing that in 30 mins.

Do I have to stop for traffic lights? Call it 45 mins then.

Wasn't too bad round here until the schools went back , it really is high time the American school bus system was adopted .... its as if the environment doesn't matter one jot ...

Think its about queuing, convenience , face masks and being herded , so much easier to sit in your car and wait instead of going elsewhere perhaps .???

Don't forget also still a huge number "working from home". While some really are putting the hours in (additional hours, even) as if they were in an office, others are using the additional flexibility - e.g. get up at 0600, do a few hours, go out for the day, get home at 1800 and do a few more hours. And of course there will be some for whom the "working" part is being treated as very optional! Plus even if you are sitting rigidly in your home office from 0900-1700, that still means at 1701 you can be out the door and going for a walk.

My Friday time record has 7am to 7pm with a 5 hour lunch break.
