Wow breaking news.

Police officer shot dead by a 23 year old male being detained in the custody centre in south Croydon.

How did he get a gun in there.

RIP to the officer involved.

Suspect shot the officer then shot himself but is in critical condition in hospital.

Awful thing to happen. In theory it should be impossible but to err is human.

If the perp lives his defence will no doubt be he didnt know it was loaded, only holding it for a mate, didnt intend to pull the trigger, just wanted to scare the police, went off by accident, etc etc. Delete as appropriate.

RIP to the officer.

The guy wasn’t cuffed due to Covid, no idea why as with mask & gloves you have Covid protection.

Suspect was in an air lock type thing & sgt does a temp test & the as he walked over to do it the guy shot him then himself.

The guy is known & was stopped with bullets in his pocket.

RIP

Sincere condolences to the officer's family.

When I heard this on the radio, this morning, my first thoughts were

How the F%~k does a detained/ arrested person still have a gun on them ?

Indeed. Nightmare incident.

I expect the coroner is going to have to something to say about the pre-custody search.

Absolutely tragic and rediculous if true.

Will this go down as another Covid death (hopefully two)

Someone made a mistake. We all make mistakes. Unfortunately sometimes when the police make mistakes the consequences are terrible.

The officer's family and friends likewise.

Presumably the Coroner's comments may lead to criminal proceedings as well as a civil suit if the findings support it.

I doubt he will be the only one. There but for the grace of god and all that. I had a suspect produce a knife at my desk and attempt to stab an officer with it, that was bad enough. Fortunately it struck his radio and no harm was done. I was not impressed though.

Not sure there’ll be anything criminal from a (potential) lack of searching.

I imagine measures around C19 have impacted upon searching.

I do wonder how the bullets (if that’s the case), came to be found.

Bet that made them think about future searches.

I think whoever was responsible for the search is going to be overwhelmed with guilt. I'm not sure whether they'll be able to get over it.

Ironic, not being cuffed must be a much higher risk than COVID. With COVID having 99% survival rate I’d rather take my chances with COVID over a bullet! World is going mad.

Ironically my worst fear was always having a death in custody. Never crossed my mind that it could be mine.
Nothing I can say really.
