Taxation is like grabbing sand- the tighter the grip, the more will slip through your fingers.

The problem with tax is if you target people with money they move, if you target the poor you end up giving it back in benefits so all that you have is the middle.

Don’t blame him. Must be painful watching the millions that the government take from you pissed up the wall.

It's not that hes moving to avoid tax that bothers me, it's that hes historically made points about how people should live their lives.

Yet he does what's best for him.
I'm not a fan.

think we should follow the US system

pay tax on your world wide income no matter where you are

only way out is the rescind your citizenship which results in all your assets being taxed on the way out

Another one taking all the benefits of UK citizenship and then disappearing when they don't fancy paying for any of it.

I linked to that at the start. He hadn't moved then. Apparently he now has.

Seems par for the course though with these sort of people.

They'll tell you to vote for something or support something that suits them, and couldn't give two hoots if it suits you. They won't actually have to live through it.

Amazing that this man funded and campaigned for the U.K. to leave the EU and then once we’ve left ups and leaves to live in the EU.

Staggering.

Fvck that. You could have my passport back in a heartbeat. Zero justification for taxing the overseas income of people who live and work abroad. Something like 10,000 Americans a year jack in their citizenship!

How many of those are real citizens though? A lot of people (including Boris) acquired US citizenship accidentally because their parents were living temporarily in the US when they were born.

US takes the view that having a US passport entitles you to certain, lifelong benefits and they expect you to pay for the pleasure. You get credit for foreign taxes so often there is no additional US tax to pay. But having to file US returns is a pain.

If you wanna go live in (and pay tax in) Singapore or the Middle East, hand your passport in and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Oh wait, suspect most will have their high-earning years in such a low tax jurisdiction then come back to the UK when they are old and their high-earning days behind them, to rely on things such as the NHS.

That only applies to a tiny percentage of people who are capital rich and for many of them they can structure their assets to avoid U.K. tax. The majority of people who pay substantial tax are employees eg bankers, CEOs, top lawyers etc and they can’t escape higher taxes because they work in the UK.
