Very sad. The daily mail website (I'm not linking it) shows photos of a very normal looking sports/closed cockpit type car, possibly a GTR?

So it wasn't a rocket motorbike or something super crazy.

Big shame.

Trying to break 270mph.

Looks like a Porsche from the daily mail shots?

I’m guessing the pool of people who could attempt this in the UK is quite small so we just need to wait until a press release until getting more details.
Surprised that the record is only 207mph for the flying km, had just assumed it would be higher.

Possibly not the best idea to speculate on the identity of the car an (more importantly) driver, until details have been announced.

Such speculation could cause distress to friends and relatives, if it turns out to be incorrect.
Agreed, but it's not looking good going by said person's Facebook page frown

Very sad indeed whoever it was, but there are far too many coincidences for it to not be the aforementioned IMO.

Goes to show that even with all the preparation, correct equipment, things can go wrong and at 200mph+ there's not a lot you can do...

I have been up and down the runway at Elvington more times than I can remember and its generally pretty safe however at 270mph IMVHO there are too many surface changes for my liking when you leave the main runway surface and IME its also a bit bumpy on the top end down from the 08 end. Its also really open and can get very windy and then there are the birds, which you can get quite a few.

Terribly sad and RIP.

I hope his friends and family can get some comfort that he died doing something that he both loved and must have known was very high risk. The world would be a very dull place without people willing to take those risks.

News reports stating a 'collision' - that's a bit strange?

I think that's just police speak for a crash, they often say 'single vehicle collision' when it's one vehicle crashing.

So sad to hear of this. I met Zef a couple of years ago at a VMax event. He was there with his wife in an absolutely stunning red Alfa 8C that made one of the best noises ever.

Chatted for quite a while about his various exploits on two and four wheels. Was always on the hunt for more speed.

He certainly lived life to the full... RIP Zef
