“Slavery was hard and so is this”. laugh Who in their right mind would think that posting such a thing could be a good idea.

“ Fitness centre operator PureGym has apologised "unreservedly" for an "unacceptable" Facebook post from one of its gyms about slavery.
The Luton and Dunstable gym said "slavery was hard and so is this" regarding a workout designed to "celebrate black history month".”

There was me thinking how stupid you must have to be to conceive/write anything like that - and that thankfully you only have to see such stupidity once in a blue moon, only for;

Black apparently, and quite vocal about racism, so I read. But from the outraged comments on FB you'd think he was a holocaust denier.

Lol.

What’s sad is that people act on other people being offended.

They should have doubled down and said it was harder than “slavery” in ancient Egypt... try get all the people of Egyptian slavery decent riled up hehe

Or how about all the slaves ever, of which 99.9% of everyone alive today are probably descended from.

Sounds like a terribly worded comparison to the (everyday) struggles of people of colour and the perseverance and endurance required in fitness but of course if you lack those it's your own fault.

The Labour MP for Luton North, Sarah Owen, said on Twitter the "offensive advert shows exactly why we need Black History Month and why the Black Lives Matter movement is so important".

Surely it highlights why it's not important.

Don't celebrate Black History Month and this post/workout isn't created and causes no offence to anyone.

Morgan Freeman has the right idea

What does black history month have to do with anyone outside of the US? Is this now a thing? Will we be celebrating Thanksgiving next?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_History_Month

It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

The UK has been doing it since 1987 and in a different month to the US.

Roll on meritocracy.

Rather than identity by the colour of your skin.

First time I've heard of it in this country. Why does it matter? Is it really necessary? Why make an exception for black people? What about other colours/cultures/religions?

The only thing this accomplishes is to create further division.

Amazing how many people jump in to get offended and make assumptions about 'fixes', without knowing who was behind this.

There's obviously a single approved set of thoughts and if you deviate at all you'll get dumped on regardless of who you are or what your background is.

Are those black black stereotypes though a la The Real McCoy, Famalam etc, or the bad ones that only white people use?
