Why is he losing the plot over this?

Sky News ran a story about UK made police riot shields being used by US police dealing with BLM riots. HMG investigated if UK made gear was being used incorrectly and apparently found no evidence of misuse. Sky have twisted this to alleging HMG saying no evidence of use, full stop. Using only information from an anti arms organisation they ran a piece saying that we should stop selling PPE equipment when it's used in this way ie for civil repression. So defending the peace and protecting lives and property is civil repression now is it? Shades of the Democrats going on about largely peaceful protests to a backdrop of burning buildings. That will end well.

Their piece here doesn't appear to show any of the shields being used for any purpose other than as purely PPE for the officers and secret service personnel.

So Sky News have been called out for it by numerous people, including those who actually have to face up to this sort of disorder and Boulton et al have just got firstly into a stupid playground spat on Twitter, and are now going lalala not listening and blocking people, refusing to reply to genuine questions. I guess they know they're in the wrong and too pigheaded to admit it.

My opinion of Sky News and Boulton was pretty low already but it's hit zero now. Suppose should have realised when they roped Emily Thornberry in to comment.

They do have clips of the shields being used to hit a photographer, along with statements from others that they were also hit with the shields.

Although does seem a bit of a non story.

Well at least this is stopping the forced labour of prisoners to make equipment for the police and armed forced
iirc all dog tags, helmets. body armour, duty belts, uniforms, target practice posters, handcuff cases.
It's almost as if prisoners are slaves.

Had a similar issue recently regarding an automotive manufacturer being asked by some staff too stop selling vehicles to the US emergency services as they are being used to oppress minorities.

Manufacturer fortunately decided that supporting those services in their lawful duty protecting the communities was more important than some spurious virtue signaling twaddle.

But there are clips of shields being used proactively in UK riots, it's a valid mode of use imo to push back and restrain in adverse conditions. So what's the issue?

Suppose the story is nothing other than another failed Sky News Gotcha attempt at HMG, but still don't understand why he's losing the plot over it.

A UK manufacturing success story. Thanks for bringing this to me Sky.

What an ahole. Unless he is saying that the police in the USA should not have shields to protect them from rioters then this is a non story. It's like blaming Ford for bad driving.

There's a joke in there somewhere about shielding (Covid n'all) but I CBA thinking about it.

But yeah, they're shields not BAE missile systems. Non-story.

No doubt they're researching the next story. "UK cricket equipment manufacturer selling cricket box pants with special 'abdominal' guard pouch to US police. How dare they!" Presumably US rozzers deserve a kick in the nadgers from rioters.

Boulton, Sky News, just FRO.

I watched a film where a bloke killed someone with a telephone. A BT phone. Made by BT. Hit him over the head loads of times with it - dead.

BT!

Where's Sky news when these things happen?

Are we talking long shield or short shields here ? It could make all the difference.
Short shields are good for a quick chop to someone's knees, long shields less so, more difficult to run with, but better to hide behind ...

Any custom versions available ? I always fancied a Captain America round shield myself but never saw one.

These are things we need to know.

The American constitution permits slavery in such circumstances. 'Punishment for a crime'. I remember, a few years ago, someone saying that there were more black slaves in the USA, the states, 'nowadays', ie on publication, than during the years when slavery was permitted and encouraged. This was before the internet became popular. There was disagreement, but it was mainly down to figures, the fact that there were lots of black slaves in the USA was more or less accepted without dispute.

While I can't name the source, a book reviewed in the printed media, I can point to the figures being readily available online. Those for the number of black prisoners are accepted as quite accurate. The number of slaves in the states of the USA is not so clear and is open to argument.

Not only is it a non story, I cant see what they think the story is. Its a riot shield ffs. Being used in a riot. What do they (Sky) want? No British shields to be used in America? But American ones are fine?

If we sold guns to the American police (I assume they source their own?) and they were used, or even misused, I can't see that issue either (wrt the manufacturer)

Misuse of equipment, charge user with misconduct. Simple. Next!

Breaking news; U.S cop orders a pair of Hi-tec Magnums from Millets in Blackpool and then stands on protester's toe. Sky Exclusive.

Sky news has been a joke when it comes to political impartiality for a while. Glad I no longer have a Sky subscription so aren't funding them.
