Do other councils have big problems with incredibly wealthy foreigners using their streets as racetracks for their super-cars.

I hope they combine the noise cameras with the picture microphones so that they can see which cars make the loud noises.

I remember a news story last year where it was proposed they could be used on rural roads where bikers with gutted exhausts ride.

Some areas will have Supercars being ragged around making as much noise as possible.

Some areas have A Class Merc AMG’s with the ‘banging and popping’ enabled being ragged around making as much noise as possible.

Some areas have clapped out hatchbacks with straight though exhausts being ragged around making as much noise as possible.

Some areas have 50cc scooters with incredibly loud £40 ebay ‘race cans’ on them being ragged around making as much noise as possible.

I think a ‘noise pollution camera’ could easily be used in all areas to punish people of all budgets.

That being said, I’m not sure I like the idea of it.

Noisy cars have always been quite enjoyable to my ears, and it will be a shame to hear the end of them. But I accept noisy cars are now generally frowned upon and their days are numbered.

Excellent news hopefully be introduced nationwide. Fed up of the micropeen'ed pop bang half wits in their stboxes ruining the peace and quiet around here.

Good idea, there are plenty of cars and bikes which properly take the piss in terms of exhaust noise. Just because you enjoy a sound, doesn't mean everyone in a half mile radius does as well.

If they are willing to combine them with rocket propelled grenades, I will personally buy one for my village.

I’m happily in favour of any enforcement on the roads that targets pillocks in noisy cars. Sooner it’s UK wide the better as far as I’m concerned.

Hope I don't fall foul of it just burbling along without trying to make any real noise. frown

I seem to be in a minority here, in that I don't mind noisy cars vehicles.

Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the sound of a V8, or a Ferrari, or something interesting, but even aged in my 40's I still smile when I hear a youngster giving it the beans in a Fiesta ST with a 4" exhaust on it, because lets face it, we've all been there.

Also, despite never having anything to do with trucks, there is little that sounds better than a V8 Scania with a set of straight pipes on it.

But, I can sympathise with those who are plagued with constant noise from loud vehicles and the distress this causes.

And when you're even older (if you're lucky to get 'old' of course) those who moan about noise will heartily wish they could still 'hear' it.

To give an idea how widespread hearing loss is as one gets older, take somewhere huge like the USA - there 1 in every 3 people between the ages of 65 and 74 has hearing loss, and almost 50% of people over 75 have difficulty hearing.

I don't deliberately do it, but like today coming home off the local by-pass as I lifted off (not delib) and got two huge pops which made me smile (for the good reason that I can still hear them!).
And no, I haven't fitted anything special, the exhaust is 'standard', it's just a quick car - it keeps me on my toes and alert especially with all the tts on the roads these days.

And I'm only in my 70s (not the decade, back then I fitted my own big exhausts and Janspeed systems, coupled with Pecos etc.
Fave was the ol' Cherry Bomb still made and sold to this day.

Be careful what you wish for, 'noise' is part of life.
However, I'll grant you, 'continuous and unnecessary' noise is a totally different matter.

I find this a very good idea. Perhaps noise-activated camera would be a better name though

Same. Though some of the mopeds around here probably do want seeing to because that isn't a nice noise at all. I know the noises are only temporary, but these things are also so slow that you can hear them for absolutely ages!

The lads in the Fiesta Zetecs and the exhausts that make them sound all rally-slag; it does look a bit desperate when it sounds like its going 200mph when in fact its doing about 20, but at the end of the day, they're enjoying themselves and its only temporary so more power to them. At least they're keeping the interest and enthusiasm going!

I'm not just saying this because I only deal with 4 wheels but there are some awful awful bikes about. There's something that goes past that can't have passed an MoT, and I'm also justified in blaming bikes as the only time a supercar comes through here is on the Gumball Rally.
