So looks like labour and it's mayors see the pandemic not as a medical issue that needs a combined approach to support and work with the the government to save lives but a political opportunity at best to get more taxpayers money or at worst to bash and undermine the government ... ... nice ....

And a lot of social engineering and conditioning

Walk down this side of the road, this road is closed, wear a mask, give your name and address when asked by a yellow jacket, don't communicate with people outside your house.

Just imagine - given how much the Tories have spent - how much Jezbollah would have blown if they had won the GE in 2019 and been in charge. eek

What I don’t understand in the Manchester standoff politically is “why is it the mayor that is having these negotiations with no10?”

Why isn’t it the local MPs doing the negotiating ?

Is there some relationship /ownership of the budget that now falls to the mayors office cos I didn’t think that’s how it works ?

Perhaps the Labour MPs have been reading all of the posts by unhappy PHers and think that they should support us?

I imagine it is the local authorities who are responsible for spending the money and they may also choose to part fund some projects themselves in response with a mixture of local and national funds.

There is nothing wrong, imo, in negotiating support packages with local leaders for local lockdowns. The problematic aspect comes when some try and play politics rather than engage constructively.

The government have been on the backfoot with Burnham as a result.

Local MPs arent responsible for local spending they are responsible for representing their constituency at a national level.
