Just hope everyone will give some time to remember the sacrifices made over the years on our behalf.

We have far too many young servicemen and women with physical injuries still requiring our help. And then of course those poor souls who have PTSD.

+ 1000 Penrhyn !! I lost my only son this year. ( long story )

Combat Stress and The Royal British Legion gave my son fantastic help and support and they need your money to help others. Trouble is Covid 19 has caused huge problems with their fund raising events. Just look at this years Poppy Appeal, almost all traditional face to face cash collections have been cancelled.

I've been an instructor with the Army Cadet Force for almost 10 years. In that time many hundreds of our cadets have been on the streets in all weathers collecting money for the Poppy Appeal. As a detachment we usually raise between £4 and £7000 over the three preceding Saturdays. Sadly, this year we have been unable to do this so have set up a Just Giving page. The cadets have collectively marched over 1.7 million paces - each one to commemorate a UK or Commonwealth life lost in two world wars and numerous other conflicts. Having polished this off, they are now doing another 1.6 million paces to commemorate each and every one of the wounded from WW1.

It's an honour to be involved with such a great bunch of really respectful and committed young adults who are really disappointed that they are not able to raise as much money as they usually do.

If anyone wants to share their justgiving on social media it would be really appreciated.

You may think this is either off topic or posted in the wrong place.

Just look what has flowered in my garden. Any experienced gardener will tell you, this should not happen in November.
Is someone trying to tell us something ??

Sorry for your loss Old Merc.

It’s sad that charities are often left to pick up the pieces when it comes to the health of ex servicemen. How can it be right that we have enough money as a nation to take military action in various parts of the world yet we don’t have enough money to properly take care of those who have returned wounded (mentally or physically).

Thanks for your post BlackLabel.
I think charities like The Royal British Legion, Combat Stress, Help for Heroes etc do a wonderful job, far better than any Government department would.
Thankfully they are well funded, thanks to the generosity of the British Public. Unfortunately this year Covid 19 has caused massive problems with fund raising. This year`s Poppy Appeal may be down 50% on last year?

The thread heading is grating on me - easy done in today's world. Can't the mods correct it?

What a year this is proving to be, the Cenotaph - it's 100 years since it was installed and thanks to covid (or rather Sage and Boris) no public will be allowed on Sunday.

Didn’t seem to mind when that little tried to set fire to the Union jacks on the cenotaph.

Fundraising was well down as many of their volunteers are in at risks groups, so I arranged to man a poppy stall at the local shopping centre with much help from my site team, was amazed at how generously some people support the charity. We did 5 days of collecting before the lockdown forced us to close and we raised £2600.
We could have doubled that had lockdown been the following week.

I agree, it’s so frustrating, given the opportunity the general public are always generous. It’s not unusual to get £20 & £10 notes stuffed in the pot. My main fund raising site is a table inside our local superstore. I have it manned 12 hours a day for the two weeks of the appeal, last year we collected £11,500, have been averaging over £10K for the last ten years.
This year we were not allowed to man the table. So I left poppies and crosses so they could help themselves. I put up signs, with QR codes, text to numbers and the RBL phone in. Not expecting anything like normal.

So sorry to hear your very sad news.

I hope your words on here might get people to just consider what happened to your son, and will add whatever money they can to the numerous Service Charities who desperately need funding.

Due to a shortage of buglers around here the official service is scheduled to be at 2.30. Perfect for me to go down there at the correct time then . . .

I’d suggest it shows that people are free to mark their respect however they wish.

My seven year old has an on line dance lesson today, which started with a two minute silence. It’s good to see the little ones marking the occasion, as I did when I was her age.

I would like to see everyone go out and parade and show their respect as normal. After all, we are honouring those who died for the freedoms this corrupt, inept and lying Govt have taken away.

There is no place on this thread for ridiculous political comments.
We are all annoyed and frustrated with all the restrictions, it’s Covid 19’s fault, end of.
