"Grumpy but resigned to his lot in life" was his speciality.

One of my favourite grumps. I try to model myself on his characters.

Yes, loved him in that role. I’ve grown up to be a lot like his character!

RIP.

Sad news, always seemed to play outwardly, curmudgeonly but ultimately warm & likable characters. A good innings, condolences to his family. RIP.

The alternative was Victor Meldrew. Be glad of your choice and more importantly those around you should be glad.

Oh yes.

“I’m a doctor and I want my sausages!” has to be one of the most unforgettable lines in British TV comedy history.

He was brilliant in Butterflies (as were the rest of the cast)

Guilty secret - I liked him as Lionel in 'As Time Goes By' with Judy Dench, playing another slightly grumpy character as he so often did, but with bags of warmth and charm.

RIP.

93! A decent innings, & delightfully curmudgeonly throughout most of those roles. RIP
