Drink-driving blood and urine test options withdrawn in NI

Good. There is no need for it these days.
Legal limit is 35ugs but no one prosecuted unless 40 and over. Between 40-50 you get the blood/urine options. Over 50 it’s results of breath only.
Getting rid of the 40-50 option will be so much more practical. The machines have proven accuracy.
Though from a practical point of view, in most circumstances alcohol levels are still rising by the time the blood or urine is completed. Plus when you go to blood the limit is the equivalent of the 35ugs.

I’d personally see the limit reduced to a level just above ‘I’ve rinsed with mouthwash’, whatever that may be. There’s NO excuse for a pint before driving. There was no reason for it to be introduced.
It was all the fault of the City of London police. Someone in my old force stupid enough to bag someone medium-up in a Fleet Street newspaper and the bloke used the paper in a campaign to put the police to a lot of exra trouble and expense.
In the end, the government gave in to the fake angst.

The statutory option went (in England & Wales) in 2015. I haven't heard of any great challenges because of it.Thoughts?
I always thought it was a needless option, a waste of time and an example of the law skewed in favour of wrongdoers.,
a get out clause for the just over the limit brigade.
Opt for the blood test and the police surgeon/ doc takes an hour to get to the cop shop, and by the time
the blood sample has been taken you are below the limit.
Its also about time the roadside breath test is regarded as accurate [ rather than as just a guide ]
and thus cannot be challenged in court by the defendant.
