Hypothetical question. If my parents move in to my house for an indeterminate period of time, say maybe they move in in late December and we aren’t sure for how long, perhaps for emotional support reasons, can they be classed as part of my household and therefore not be affected by COVID tiers and rules about meeting up?

3/10 doesn’t seem very generous to me!

Keep them as emotional support animals and they won’t count towards bubbles/households/firebreaks/moats or whatever bks the government is coming out with now

We have been referring to the parents as turkeys for the last two months. So travel arrangements and accommodate are related to the "turkeys". (Haven't quite sussed out post Chrimbo but will once we know the regs and whether the Turks have had their gooses cooked). They make our bubble six and are staying for a few weeks whilst homeless between rental properties and helping with our Christmas.

However, when I went to my butcher this lunchtime on my social distanced lunchtime walk to the coffee shop, I asked for 48 pigs in blankets to pick up Christmas Eve he asked "How many turkeys do you need sir". "Oh none thanks, already got two prepared, just need the trimmings".

He mentioned something about in theory if he believed he was producing an order for more than six people he thought Borises latest gaff was he should inform the local council Tag and Trace people. He said he'd give me the benefit of the doubt, then entirely unlike his mild mannered self I've known for 30 years shout at me "Now, now, tell me how many pigs in blankets each person is eating or I have to put your name in zee councils book".

"Eighteen each" I replied.

"Oh, OK" he said, "You are a bit porky so I can see why three of you must need two Turkeys and eighteen pigs in blankets each. Do you want any stuffing?".

Phew....I'm either I'm crap at maths or can't quite understand faux official dogma from non legal official, we're cooking for eighteen, but there won't be eighteen people in our house, we'll be distributing 18 meals (with 3 PIBs each) around other houses on the street to people with no family! Christ some people are realy electing themselves in self officialdom!

I've said ever since all this started that it really brings out the inner fascist in a lot of people. Should have let Hitler off and saved ourselves a load of hassle and cost.

Ooops didn't mean to offend other religious people there as obs Christ wasn't elected he just got the job; I didn't mean to say he was "self officialdom though" in what sounds a negative connutation, I meant that for my butcher.

Go the whole hog and employ them on PAYE.

Genuine question - what would be the position if parents really did need to move in with adult children for a period of time whilst they were homeless or between properties? It does happen quite a lot.

ETA - at what point do they become a household? I.e after 1 night, 1 week or would they have to isolate first?

Defined as same address for council tax ?
I don’t have to list all occupants until they send the annual electoral roll cards out. One of my sons moved back home from London last month as he could no longer afford to live there on furlough, he doesn’t show as being here on anything official yet and is unlikely to as as soon as he’s back on his feet he’ll be moving out again.
My daughter and her wife will also be coming over from America for a month and will be quarantining at my house for two weeks, they won’t have anything proving their address here either.
Another son bought his own house earlier in the year and has been doing it up so stays here in the week and there at weekends doing renovation work.
As far as I’m concerned we are all one household.
