Britons have been told not to stockpile food and toilet roll ahead of the 1st January when the UK stops trading under EU rules, according to the BBC.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55293595

Given what happened when the great British public got the notion (somehow!) that toilet rolls were likely to be in short supply and immediately cleared the supermarket shelves of them, I guess we have to expect the same for food now...

Complete and utter bks. Who tf is suggesting this or is it just rumours the BBC are repeating? Any food shortages will be purely be a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy,

It’s more likely with articles like that because the brain dead will stockpile pasta, rice and loo roll just like back in March

Given we export much more toilet paper than we import I think the crappers of the UK have nothing to worry about.

If there's a shortage then like a lot of fking nonsense that occurs in this country it will be the fault of the (social or otherwise) media.

Quite sensible really, give the dribbling idiots a couple of weeks notice of the panic date so their panic buying can be drawn out.

Precisely. Given how the public responded to the notion that they might not be able to wipe their arse, how do you think they'll respond to the notion that they might not be able to buy food?

Given the UK's obesity & T2 diabetes problems and its contribution to our CV19 death figures, a food shortage could be a blessing in disguise.

Supermarkets are rubbing their hands together, do you think they are not planning for this, or are they waiting for Boris to give the nod on new years eve?

It's a huge business opportunity to increase food sales to masses of gullible idiots.

It's ok- those who panic-bought earlier in the year will be much smarter this time around & will have learnt their lessons from last time. (I wrote that with a straight face smile )

Remember that they don't see themselves as panic-buyers so much as smart individuals staying ahead of the curve & doing what's necessary to provide for themselves & their families despite the problems that they see elsewhere.

Absolutely.

I hope the events of 2020 have served to turn more people against the BBC and the rest of the morally deprived, click desperate media organisations.

Not to be a pessimist or anything but weren’t food shortages at the start of 2021 one of the parts of the Canada Plan email?

This is going to sound a bit mental but my husband started a Brexit cupboard (or 3) about a year and a half ago.
Then it turned into a Pandemic cupboard and now it’s back to being a Brexit cupboard.
I think he watches too many of those “prepper” vids on YouTube. biggrin
It was useful though so I don’t give him stick about it like I did in 2019!
