London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged ministers to act "with open eyes" and avoid damaging the capital's economy.

He said tier three could have a "catastrophic consequence" for hospitality, culture and some retail, as pubs and restaurants would be limited to takeaways or deliveries.

Well, boo-fking-hoo. He does realise that this is what large swathes of the country are currently going though, I take it? Sorry London, but you aren't some special case.

I thought what a divi he made himself look on the telly.

He should at least have acknowledged that 1/3 of the country is under tier 3 already.

oh think of the kids... the schools.... dont close the schools.....

What is it with the schools, what dont they see.... its the schools thats spreading it...

Is it that people want their kids at school, that having the kids at home hampers them ?

Pretty sure closing education down for another extended period will have dire consequences for the future of the children that will miss out on more education. Unless you're going to tell me that te schools are going to do a damn sight better than they did in the last lockdown?

So they get an education? Also their mental wellbeing. Besides, a school is a controlled environment. Outside of schools there's not much anyone can do to stop them mixing.

All it'll do is shift people into their friends homes/elsewhere.

Friday night we were due to be out for a meal and drinks with a few other friends - that's now a takeaway at one of our houses followed by many more bottles of wine than would have been the case otherwise.

Saturday night we have a booking at a Chelsea restaurant, for dinner with the in-laws - thankfully I made a back-up reservation for another venue in a location which looks to be staying in T2...

Yes we are! I was out and about in busy parts of London during the lockdown. We have alot of outside venues & tourists need to do stuff. TBH I preferred the 'lockdown' to Tier 2 - spending too much on going out! Okay, i'm a tiny bit miffed about a Xmas dinner with friends on Friday - will do it indoors instead.

Unlikely to make any difference tbh, it's a load of bks where the underlying data is manipulated to get the desired outcome at the end of the day.

Thankfully more people are developing the backbone to treat the restrictions with the contempt they deserve.

? Surely if he travels to Tier 2 for dining out then he won't be 'spreading the virus' in Tier 3, so infections will drop and he'll be shifted into Tier 2. All this nonsense does it shift the problem to areas of low testing, at least for a while. Especially when we are about to spend a week travelling to see relatives.

Yep, all the shops'll be open, all they're doing is shutting pubs, restaurants and theatres again weeks after they re-opened. Why? confused

Sky are altogether more bullish, London and parts of Essex Hertfordshire from Weds

Anyone who thinks closing pubs and restaurants will help cannot read chart data
