What would you do?
Discussion
OK, there are so many threads running on here from all of the PH 'experts' telling us all what the government are doing wrong in their handling of the pandemic.
If you were as unfortunate as they have been and been dropped into this completely unknown position, how would you handle:-
1) Production and distribution of a vaccine?
2) Ensuring the safety of the most vulnerable sections of society?
3) Ensuring the safety of the rest of the populace?
4) The control of the spread of the Virus?
5) Managing businesses in order to achieve the points above?
6) Ensuring that any new laws are adhered to?
7) Making sure that misinformation is not allowed to mislead people.
And don't forget, although you have to be able to make these decisions without any personal experience of the situation, you will receive a tsunami of flak if your decisions are wrong/unpopular.
Personally, I don't have any expertise or experience of any of the above points, so I won't be commenting!

Allow everyone to carry on as they wish, ensure those who are most at risk can shield.
That's it.
+1That's it.
The data seems to suggest that the average age of those sadly dying is give or take at the average age of people who die anyway. Yet we’re throwing the rest of society, potentially for years, under the bus to give a very old person a few months? Madness.

Interesting view, shared by many. That's it.
You have no worries about the accusations of being responsible for so many deaths due to inaction?

Do you not have any older relatives? The data seems to suggest that the average age of those sadly dying is give or take at the average age of people who die anyway. Yet we’re throwing the rest of society, potentially for years, under the bus to give a very old person a few months? Madness.

Many of us have older relatives. We don't labour under the misapprehension though that they would be immortal as long as the government "does something". and your point also misses the fact it would have been entirely possible to shield the vulnerable using only a fraction of the time and money spent on locking up everyone else.

Or at the least put the whole country in tier 1,enables people and businesses to function but with sensible precautions which should be strongly enforced, routine checks in hospitality venues for spacing etc. That's it.

This shouldn’t be an option. That's it.
Not it is an impossible option/very difficult option but it shouldn't be an option

Are you enjoying the world of lockdown too much?, is that it.

Well, my day job is about making sometimes life and death decisions based on incomplete information. Actually, that's not QUITE true - I only 'recommend' and other people decide . . . but when my colleague and I really nail our colours to the mast, it takes a lot of capital to disregard the recommendation.
But I 'fell from heght' last Saturday, so no recommending for me until well into 2021, a relief in a strange way, and I'm also partly off my tits on prescribed opiates.
My big picture criticism of the government's handling of coronavirus is about the lack of process and competence. Apparently near zero levels of each. The Prime Minister has spent a lifetime unpreparing for this - pathologically idle and undisciplined, incapable of honesty and leadership.

So, are you saying that you’re not a huge fan of BoJo? But I 'fell from heght' last Saturday, so no recommending for me until well into 2021, a relief in a strange way, and I'm also partly off my tits on prescribed opiates.

Provide support to shielding vulnerables....priority food deliveries etc. Lockdown care homes and requisition local hotels for care home staff which are also locked down.
Everyone else life as normal.
Travelling abroad, inbound and outbound flights as normal, no restrictions on foreign visitors ?Everyone else life as normal.
The problem is the government didn't start off well. It has been impossible to claw back what was lost to begin with. Also you need to take into account the amount of experts, organisations, quangos, healthcare & govdepartments and realms of information have been available to the government.
Just ask yourself how many COBRA meetings Johnson missed......
