ACC Ian Pilling will step up as interim chief constable, Mr Burnham says. He says he knows how hard officers and staff of GMP have worked and “we appreciate it so much”. Says he has acted quickly to take steps to address the problems.

My MP wrote an open letter to him recently. During the first lockdown, some two bit DJ led a convoy of chavved-up sh*t-boxes from Telford to Denton. They caused a roadblock on the M6 en route, and then proceded to tear-arse up residential streets. Anderw Gwynne (who I usually think is a bit of a cock) was rightly p*ssed off that GMP did nothing to stop them, and handed out no fixed penalties for traffic offences, antisocial behaviour, or breach of COVID rules. He sighned off with:
"“GMP must now be in line for the most-inept police force in the country and the people of Denton would be better paying a precept to the Keystone Cops.”

OK. Any reasons given ? Is Ian Pilling filling in as Chief ?
Sadly, and hopefully not permanently There’s only one member of the Command team I have any respect for, or faith in and it’s not Pilling
A complete clear out is needed
The same could probably be said of most forces though

I know Ian from his pre-GMP days. Always found him OK TBH.

Calls for Burnham to resign as well, after 80,000 crimes went unreported in just one year.
Not unreported - unrecorded. There's been a blank line and a footnote for GMP in the ONS data set for England and Wales for a few years now. Every other force has managed to do it (although you do see jumps as individual force's processes get a kick up the arse).
I have had cause to ring GMP 5 times this year.
4 times on switchboard and all 4 times it rang out for 30 to 40 mins. Varying times of the day. Disgraceful. In the end it was quicker to email the local pcso.
1 time on 999 to report a crime in progress (robbery) and after 15 mins and the perpetrators being long gone I hung up. No call back, nothing.
The business next door to mine had a theft of 40k and it took them a week to send someone out.
I have family and friends in the force and I am embarrassed for them.

Yes, you could be right.

Having had to deal with another force and Chief this year I suspect you’re correct. The same could probably be said of most forces though
It has been an eye opener the impunity with which some characters act and the degree of defensiveness and cover up is incredible. As Andy Burnham was describing the problem today it all sounded very familiar.
We are in the 21st century, the police need to be accountable and not behave like the masons.

Where are all the usual moral crusaders, going on about who is to blame, and who is responsible in this?
Andy Burnham is responsible for failing to record crimes ?Where are all the usual moral crusaders, going on about who is to blame, and who is responsible in this?
Burnham, as Mayor, is also the PCC but why do you think he should resign ?
Typical Tory fanboy nonsense from you, as usual.

The vast majority of the troops want to do the right thing. Higher echelons are more concerned with the image of the force.
