That approach worked not so well in January 2020.

But this new strain is apparently even more easily spread.

There will be at least one person with this strain in NL.
Clearly current restrictions don’t stop it spreading, so it’ll spread.

So there is no point.



The only ‘fix’ is widespread testing.

If you could wake up in a morning and know if you should leave the house or not, this would all be over in a few months.

Vaccine might work. But then when it stops working with a new strain.

My brother-in-law lives/works in Amsterdam. A few weeks ago they were airlifting people to German hospitals since the Dutch hospitals had run out of beds.

I think that the point brig made was that these were the sort of thing said about Trump when he banned some flights in the spring. He was called a racist for taking early measures that the same people now applaud.

Not true! The number of coronapatients in Dutch hospitals is much lower than during the first wave in march/april.

I’m setting off for the Hull-Rotterdam ferry en-route to Belgium.
There for 3 days then returning Wednesday.
Can see it being an interesting trip.

As Trump would say, fake news. The xenophobia claims were around Trump calling it the China Virus, not about a half baked, ineffective ban on travel from China.

Trump banned Chinese nationals, not flights from China. Because whiteys in China couldn't possibly be infectious and bring it home to the US, could they...

I would certainly advise contacting the place you're staying to make sure you'll be allowed in. We had friends refused entry to their hotel recently owing to a change in the Covid rules over here.

A couple of days ago Italy announced swinging restrictions over Christmas relating to family gatherings. Given how religious and family orientated the Italians are I'd say that's somewhat significant.
