If the rules here are correct, then he may be out of luck:

I see nothing wrong with his decision, and should still be available for anyone to apply for citizenship anywhere they choose.
This is, of course, not the same as a right to reside anywhere within the EU which UK nationals no longer have, as with EU nationals doing the same here. Any citizen of another country can apply for citizenship of the UK, within the rules set out by HMG, should they wish to do so.

Not sure why Reuters have published the article or why you've started a thread about it ??https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-eu-johns...
There is nothing remarkable or newsworthy about the Johnson's decision..........is there?

Well at first sight it does seem strange that the father of the man who took us out of the EU should be seeking citizenship of an EU country. Apparently he has form in his EU relationship going back to being one of the first UK MEPs elected. There is nothing remarkable or newsworthy about the Johnson's decision..........is there?
Not sure why he has waited until now though as we left a year ago and the writing has been on the wall since 2016 though May did her best to keep us in.

It’s strange that a father and son have some differing opinions? How so?Not sure why he has waited until now though as we left a year ago and the writing has been on the wall since 2016 though May did her best to keep us in.
I’ll be taking French citizenship in a couple of months, and am a Dutch resident, is that strange too?
