Interesting on the media this morning, how your perceptions (or others' can change):
- Andrew Castle, who usually hosts the weekend breakfast show on LBC, has been a really good advocate of a sceptical approach to lockdown up until now, and yet the last two mornings seems to have done a complete U-Turn and now seems to be heavily advocating lockdown and closing schools. It's a shame to see this, and it appears to me anyway, that he has been 'got at' in some way to follow maybe a general editorial policy at Global/LBC that others follow. I hope this isn't the case, and that others like Nick Ferrari, still at least touch the sceptic button still, but there is a sense that Global/LBC are trying to follow the rest of the media generally, unlike TalkRadio who continue to be the only UK media outlet with a sceptical policy on lockdown.
- If anyone saw Johnson's interview on the Marr Show this morning, I actually found myself agreeing with much of what the PM was saying about trying to reach a balanced approach to schools and lockdown, even if I think they have messed things up considerably, and are basically incompetent about how they have gone about things. They 'seem' to be trying for a middle way that avoids the extremes of the lockdown fanatics they are obviously surrounded with. As an side, I am generally neutral on Andrew Marr as a journalist, but I think he handled the Johnson interview incredibly badly today, and had a naked agenda he seemed to be trying to promote on pro-lockdown, and came across quiet badly IMO. Also, is anyone saw the closing credits, neither man was talking to the other after the interview, it all looked quite awkward to uncomfortable between them (they at least usually make some effort to 'talk' when the credits roll in these types of interview)
Looking forward to JHB returning next week, and some real analysis of what has been going on in the last two weeks...

I saw the Marr interview and Andrew did appear a bit more combative than usual, particularly on the issue of Scottish independence, which I was most interested in hearing the PM's response to: Mr Johnson was unconvincing on the subject, stumbling a lot and saying little except to remind Scottish voters that they've already had two votes on the subject so there won't be another one anytime soon.

To qualify my point on BJ, for me the Tories are the only party fighting the corner for keeping kids in education, all the other parties seem to be Lockdown+ on everything. The Govt is too radical for my liking on Lockdown, but imagine how much worse it would be with a Labour Govt under Starmer - he has an open goal to push the lockdown sceptic card, but has completely ignored it. Dare I say it, but I think if Corbyn was PM now we'd actually be better off, as his instinctive sceptiscism from the old Left would probably be a good antidote for the current Zeitgeist...- Andrew Castle, who usually hosts the weekend breakfast show on LBC, has been a really good advocate of a sceptical approach to lockdown up until now, and yet the last two mornings seems to have done a complete U-Turn and now seems to be heavily advocating lockdown and closing schools. Having two kids in education (one at secondary school and one at Uni), I am passionate about the need to keep education going, almost no-matter what, for kids' welfare and futures. The Tories, like it or not, despite being the creators of our lockdowns, are also the only ones talking about the need to keep education going.
Was there ever a time when we really needed a proper Opposition and alternative in politics to the current status quo?
